I think you guys do. Avs aren't the same team from 2022. Can't just stick a plug in there and expect to win.

If Avs are serious about winning, they need at least a good goalie, preferably elite goalie

We'll see... If th3 Avs can ever get to full health, they come pretty damn close to the same level of depth as they had in 2022.

Drouin - Mackinnon - Rantanen
Lehkonen- Mittelstadt - Nichushkin
Landeskog - Colton - O'Connor
Wood - Ivan - Kovalenko
Kiviranta/Kelly

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Ludwig/De Haa - Malinski

Pretty much only the bottom defensive pairing would be weaker. And that's probably the area they address at the deadline this year(I'm betting money David Savard is an Avs player by March 1st).

But obviously right now they don't look nearly as good missing 4 guys out of the Top 9 forwards and a Top pairing Dman today.

Let's just get something straight here: if there was a bizarro world where this trade would happen, Shesterkin would be more expensive to re-sign than Rantanen for the Avs. Shesterkin has already turned down an 88 million dollar offer from the Rangers. Guess how much that would be on a 7 year deal with the Avs? 12.5, and that's just what Igor turned down. Whereas with Rantanen the current state of negotiations is that apparently the Avs are not offering Rantanen anywhere near that type of cash right now. Probably offering him something in the 11s at max.

But it's not going to happen. Rangers team construction needs Igor. And making this trade after the deadline only means you have an early start with negotiations, nothing more. Neither team can offer the 8th year if they don't have the player on their roster by trade deadline.

There's no way Shesterkin is getting more than Mikko, let's be real. Goalies don't hold that kind of value, especially when compared to someone who's consistently among the league top point getters (7th cumulative since 2017, only McD, Leon, Mack, Kuch, Panara, and Pasta have more).

Maybe. I could see Toronto in a nutshell giving up Marner for Shesterkin thinking that is their answer.

Can't get rid of Rantanen and expect to win either. Who exactly would they replace him with, and how much is that going to cost?

Is Landeskog ever gonna play? Can Nichushkin stay out of trouble? To me, those are both major questions, and the “we’re waiting for our complimentary pieces to return to put a little less pressure on our stars” mantra might start to be needing questioning, even if the theory has merit as long as it occurs. If those players are consistently unavailable, it starts eating in the contention window for MacKinnon, Makar, Rantanen, and a true retool might be needed.
They literally played the last few games without Landeskog, Nichushkin, Drouin, Lehkonen and Toews. Even getting Drouin, Lehkonen and Toews back would be plenty to make the playoffs easily.

Don’t disagree, but the point is they might need an elite goaltender being in this malaise where they have a lot of guys out. A few guys moves the needle a little, but there’s a big difference between making the playoffs and being a contender to win. They probably need literally all the injured guys back to win the Cup with the current team that has bad goaltending.

Where is Bern in this, that's what I want to know.
thank you for asking....
btw, I believe I did have a post early on saying currency is not a match
not a bad effort by OP as to value, certainly no insult but not a match
also, if Rs deal Shesty his max value is sooner than later
UNLESS fall back position, they give him like 13 to assuage his ego, BUT no nmc and min ntc

Bern will send you Shesterkin for Mikko, while also including a very sexy Mika DJ, for whatever top ELC/cheap prospect you can give us. And by whatever I mean your absolute best.
bern believes best offer is something like
Byfield + Anderson + Talbot
for
Shesty + Lindgren + ]moderate add]

can go bigger/smaller but core is Shesty for Byfield
there was an article not immediately available to me published by Yardbarker to effect that Kings will go super heavy after Igor if he is ufa and would bid now

NY has no interest in Marner, would only consider if somehow, inexplicably, third team w/something Rs want is involved

After shipping Shesty [say that 5 times funkily fast] to a WC team, next best is out of division, tho highest concern is the return

Leafs have Matthews and possible zib [we want to move b'c he is inconsistent w/Kreider] sees Shesty going and is told bread is not sniffing 11/6+ from us and is likelly accepting a move next yr to avoid ugly scene. He gets paying w/Matthews is not too shabby.

Hopefully Rs listen to bern and recognize smart move is NOT all in single season, but deals THAT EXTEND THE WINDOW, even if 3 back now for 4 ahead later.
Zib gets moving of vets to make space for youth and not let cap dictate roster means maybe he should consider TOR

So,,
Shesty + Zib + Lindgren + Jones [some retention]
for
Nylander + Knies + Liljigen [later TOR 1st to pay for retention]
something like dat
