Not in love with it. I was high on Keane and I'm not convinced there's much to Gauthier's game other than being big.
And can skate.

I like what GMJG's doing here. He's going for size without sacrificing speed.

Gauthier is only 22 and has 26-11-37 in 44 games for Charlotte. He still has a shot to be a Kreider-like replacement.

If he doesn't meet that standard, however, he has excellent odds of being a monstrous 3rd liner, which would be very valuable.

Yes, but let's ignore any positives. Like say, drafting the player you are getting worked up in knots about in the 3rd round.

Yes because god forbid I allow myself to get excited about the rare times its looking like we've actually hit on a mid round pick and be devastated we traded for him for someone who will be 23 on 2020 opening night.

And am horrified that there is a scary trend of players we trade away finally turning it on as soon as they leave here.

coming back in this thread 3 times and all I see is your bs, how much more you think so I can come back to see what other guys think of this trade.

Imagine being 23. He should be ashamed of himself.

OK, I'll move along so you can all have your JG circlejerk and pretend that this is just another fantastic move in a series of fantastic moves this management has made

Is Simmoms a good comp?

Took him a bit to break in with LA, then they sent him to Phi. Vert raw till he got to Philly, then took off.

I haven't seen Gauthier, but his scouting report sound similar to what Simmonds was post Jr.

Either way. Glad we got him for Keane, than part of a pick + player combo for one of our premium TDL assets.

I genuinely do not understand how the bolded, on its own, is inherently a bad thing.

I have no problem with someone disliking a prospect, but at least have a real reason. If this guy can be an effective NHL player its going to be over the 7-10 years of his life. If you ask me, this is exactly when we'd want him

Our success at the mid and late picks is well above average. The negative spin you are putting on this is ridiculous. How about we rephrase and say we traded for someone who is likely on our opening roster in 2020 for someone who likely never had a chance of making it here?

I think its perfectly fair to think this wasn't a good deal and you prefer Keane. To not recognize why they did it or to only phrase everything in the worst possible light is what is making everyone get so annoyed. You aren't making your arguments in good faith, you are just ranting.

Canes fans do not sound happy about losing Gauthier for Keane. Sounds like they preferred to move him for an NHL piece that can help right now if they were going to trade him.
Yeah. Seems like main boards 50/50 on it but most canes fans seem to like Gauthier and how he’s improved. Seems like a fair trade considering Keane is expansion exempt which they need

What’s with the overwhelming negativity? We traded away an asset that had no chance of cracking our roster for a 22 year old replacement for one of Fast or Kreider. So the youngest roster in the NHL got even younger and we still haven’t gotten our future assets back for our UFA rentals we’re about to trade.
