As @Edge said in one of the other threads before it got deleted in favor of this one, I promise you Pionk has a LOT more value around the league than how the majority viewed him on this board. Frankly, I can see him doing quite well in Winnipeg.

There was a deal of interest in Pionk, it was more a matter of what direction the Rangers wanted to go.

Earlier I said the Rangers would be in, but wouldn’t chase the deal into the stratosphere.

This deal represents that. Pionk was being shopped, so he was a guy the Rangers we’re already willing to move. The 20th pick is a no-brainer for the Rangers b/c if they can’t come to terms, Trouba nets a first as a rental and probably a prospect.

Having said that, I don’t think the Rangers fear the contract talks. They know what the price will be. I don’t think other teams felt quite as comfy with that scenario.

Guess this means that Gorton has a taker for Shattenkirk. DeAngelo and Fox aren't sitting. I don't think he's buying him out now. Hope he gets a pick and that is the end of him. Good guy. Sucked here.

The only other scenario is Fox starts the year in Hartford but I doubt they would do that by default.

I will say that the fear was probably that Winnipeg was going to ask for ADA, who the Rangers preferred to keep.

You simply can't be mad about this deal. Sure if he doesn't sign it's unfortunate, but you can easily recoup that pick at some point if you decide to move him as a rental.

I think the Rangers still want that. But Trouba at that price point was something they couldn’t walk away from.
