Depends on how fast they need it, since Lundqvist will come off the books relatively soon.

Rangers D is still bad, Trouba just makes it less bad, but he's an important piece going forward. With Staal and Shattenkirk still going to be relied upon in the lineup, it's going to be tough to be good unless Shattenkirk has a big comeback year.

I think DeAngelo and Fox are going to be basically competing against each other in the coming year or two for a long term spot on the team (assuming they both are around that long) but when the old guys start heading out and the new guys start coming in, it could get young and good real fast. 1-2 more years for Miller, and guys who play in college tend to be able to step in quicker and produce quicker. Same for Lundkvist, 1-2 more years, playing against men and establishing himself now, could step in quickly to the NHL and not have to go through rookie pro jitters. You've got Hajek with pro experience, Rykov, Reuenenen...all of these guys aren't 20 year fresh out of CHL guys needing to learn the ropes of playing a pro game against men, they'll be pro experienced players who might need some adjustment but who can make an impact in their first year

2 years from now a guy like Trouba, Skjei, etc, still easily in their prime for a defenseman with these new skilled guys stepping in and making immediate impacts, things change really quickly. They might not be in their primes yet but as I said, I think Gorton picked these kind of guys partly because of this reason...they'll step right in, they won't be developing for years in the AHL and feeling their way through years in the NHL.

Still a ways to go but you see how a building block like Trouba sets the stage for the other prospects to join and provide the boost that's needed in a few years.

And at that time Kakko, Kravtsov, etc will be more seasoned and ready to be the bigtime contributors we hope they can be, more players in the pipeline...

I don't think the Rangers are trying to take shortcuts here, they'll keep holding onto picks and trying to maximize what they can (no buying at the deadline, maybe even selling some guys) but they always said they were going to try to do this with a combination of picks and young players ready to contribute.

Just when you’re ready to agree with someone, **** like this is unleashed....

Swinging knockout punches here as usual, @Levitate.

You can’t find amazing discussions like this between great posters like you and @bobbop outside of HF.

To be clear only my first paragraph was directed at bobbop. The rest was just thinking out loud

Aren't there going to be a bunch of of good UFA Dmen available July 1st? Is the 2 year difference between Trouba's age and UFA age that important that we gave up 20th overall?

Dont like to lose pick 20 at all for a Trouba, when they have not talked to him. Pionk I am fine loosing though, but it sucks not to get Dorofayev / Höglander on pick 20 that I think would have rocked.

But I am glad its not worse.

As I said earlier, when we make moves like this one for Trouba, I always go over to our main rivals boards especially the Devils, Islanders, Penguins, Caps and Flyers boards because they know their shit. And I also have been going recently to the Jackets and Canes boards due to their passion and the posters there also know their shit and are pretty savvy.

I than head over to the staples like the Canadian, Leaf and Bruins boards cause tho they may be arrogant peeps, they know their hockey. I like to go their to read their fresh perspectives because they typically have an unbiased view of our moves tho they may hate us especially the Devil and Islander boards.

And to a man, almost every poster has been a very positive view on what we did today acquiring Trouba and our rebuild as a whole. I'm sure there are others in here who also gravitate to the other boards to read what they are thinking and I can't tell you how proud I feel right now as to how we are looked at around the league.

Pretty much everyone is saying and I'm paraphrasing here "damn the Rangers rebuild is going faster than I thought" or "wow the Rangers fleeced another GM" or "why does it seem like every player wants to play for the Rangers" "the Rangers are going to be in the playoffs soon" or "Ranger fans must be happy how things are going in their rebuild" or "damn the Rangers sure are rebuilding their team the right way, I wish our team would take a queue from them"...etc etc...yada yada yada....you get the point peeps.

I never thought in my lifetime, our franchise and organization would be looked upon as an organization to want to emulate seeing most of the time we were made fun of at how we would always buy players well past their prime, trade away valuable assets like it was candy all in order to try and be competitive and maybe by some miracle, we'd somehow win a Cup which never happened. Now, it's the total opposite and other fanbases respect us and are actually in fear of how we will ultimately end up being.

I don't know maybe it's because I've been a fan of this team of ours for going on 50 year which is likely more than 90% of y'all in here and I've been thru so much with this team and so I'm waxing poetice...apologies if this is boring some of you younger pups but for those in here who are in their mid 50's, you know what I'm talking about.

We've been thru so many up's and so many downs. I guess I just felt like sharing this and because I'm so damn proud of our organization that we did what we did and broke things down to the point where there is not only hope for the future but that it would not be surprising if within a few years, our Rangers realistically could be one of the top 2-3 teams in the league year after year with realistic opportunities to win not just a Cup but multiple Cups like the Kings, Black Hawks, Penguins have done over the years. For this Mets,Jets,Knicks and Rangers fan...that would be glorious...:)

great trade for rangers but the Jets were in a very difficult situation and the rangers took full advantage. Jets are in salary cap hell and have to re-sign laine and connors to huge deals so they couldnt take a lot of salary in return.. plus trouba wanted out for a long time. Losing trouba is a devastating blow for the jets.... they no longer have a championship caliber blueline. trouba was a bit of a headcase but a lot of that was due to not wanting to be in winnipeg. You guys got a great player entering his prime.

Trouba: "Omg this city sucks, and the team is going nowhere..."

A Moose/Manitoba's Poet Laureate: "what a loony..."

That is so nasty. Just reading that puts me in a great mood.

By the way, does anyone know the whole situation with Trouba’s girlfriend? I know she’s aiming to be a doctor, but is there anything in the way of Trouba signing in NY? One post I read said she’s an actress and that she wants to live in California?
Trouba’s girlfriend is in medical school. Panarin’s girlfriend is an aspiring model.

Would have liked getting someone like Höglander, Heinola, Björnfot, Seider or Dorofeyev at 20 but lets hope this turns out to be a good move.
