Gorton "hey Brady, you know Jacob right?"
Skjei "yeah. we're like total BFFs"
Gorton "do you...do you think you can ask him if he likes us likes us?"

I still see an underwhelming forward corps (until Kakko, Kravtsov and Chytil take off), a defense that still has holes and issues, and a declining Henke. And, that’s if the Rangers sign Panarin, which I still see as not likely.

Yeah depends on how good you think the Rookies and Sophomores will be next year.

I don't think they get Panarin either and with out him they're not a bubble team, though still probably better than the ass group that I mentioned before, but I was just following the parameters set by the OP.

Which team in the east are the Rangers pushing out of a playoff spot?

Islanders for one. Who besides Barkov scares you? And even he had a down year. You think Lehner is now all of a sudden a perenial Vezina candidate? I know I don't. They have warts.

The Canes?. I like them and they do have some nice pieces but you think a duo of Mzarek and McHilleheny is a recipe for playoff success? I don't. They have warts for sure.

Columbus? They lose Panarin and Bob, you don't think they don't move down a peg or two? I know I do.

Heck even the Pens started to show some chinks in their armour.

You put Panarin on our roster along with Kakko and now Trouba, I'm not even mentioning the additions of Kravtsov, Fox and the likely improvements of Chytle, Howden, ADA...etc I think our roster with the goaltending of Georgie and Hank is absolutaly good enough to secure a 6,7.8 seed and with a little luck possibly secure a 2,3 Metro seed.

Heck did you think the Islanders would win the division last year with that roster? I know I didn't. We could do some damage this year and alot of teams in our conference have warts including us but I like or chances especially if we get Panarin now that we got Trouba.

We're these two on that U-25 NA team a few years back?

not sure if they ever played on the same pair but 2010-11 they played together on the USNTDP juniors, us national u-17 team, us national u-18 team, usa u-17, usa-18..2011-12, USNTDP juniors, us national u-18, usa u18 and usa u20 (WJC)

You mean Barzal.

Barkov not only had an awesome year, but he plays for the Panthers.

Gee, Trouba doesn't sound like a jerk.
“As for his future, Trouba wasn’t ready to discuss whether he was open to signing a long-term deal with the Rangers.
“We haven’t really worried about it. I’m just trying to get through the night and enjoy it and everything that’s going on,” Trouba said. “I’m sure we’ll deal with it in the morning and start those talks in the morning.”

Sounds like he wants to negotiate to me

You have a far more optimistic view of this roster than I do. There’s not going to be an overnight turnaround. And, I do not think Panarin is going to end up on the Rangers. Trouba is a great addition, and I love the youth added to the roster. But, these kids are not ready-made NHL stars. I would consider it a successful season if both Kravtsov and Kakko hit 40+ points as rookies, and that doesn’t even replace the points lost from trading Zuccarello and Hayes. I’m very bullish on the Rangers’ future, but there’s a reason JD was immediately preaching patience. There’s still a lot of ground to cover.

Seriously, this is when you call up teams 4-8 and ask what else on top of Kreider, Georgiev and a 2020 1st does it take to get something done.

Feel like just Kreider and Georgiev should do it; if Stepan and Raanta can get us 7 AND DeAngelo, Kreider and Georgiev should be able to get 7 or 8 by itself.

So if everything goes right for the rangers they will be a great team next season?

Looked it up. Skjei wasn't part of that team. JT Milller was the only NYR on that team in 2016

There's going to be a lot of collateral damage.

D'Angelo is going to get a bridge contract. The expectation is that Trouba is going to be here for a long time. Same with Fox. ADA still has a lot of work to do on his game. He have that opportunity but he's going to get a 2 year bridge at best to prove himself. Lundkvist gets plenty of time to marinate in Sweden.
Smith was going to be bought out under any circumstances. Now that's a certainty. The only question is if someone comes along at the last minute to take him at a 50% discount.

I'm not sure what to think about Shattenkirk but there's certainly plenty of possibilities. Trade, buyout, placeholder for Fox are all in play. I'm sure he will be shopped at the draft and this may intensify after the Rangers get a look at Fox on the ice next week. If the Rangers sign both Panarin and Trouba to long term deals, they may need cap room. Lots of moving parts here.

I guess the good thing is that for the first time in a couple of years, we are adding to the top of the deck. That feels so damn good.
