And that’s fine. He doesn’t get traded. Not trying to be smart with you. Nylander is an exceptional talent. He stays until Toronto gets what they want.

You do realize the wise move, one that won't get Dubas fired, is to take the best offer on the table if negotiations are dead between him and Nylander?

You can't just say take the best deal or risk getting fired. If the best deal stinks that's a pretty good way to get fired as well.
Leafs can wait, even if it's not the ideal short term outcome.

This isn't Peter Chiarelli here. Dubas won't trade Willy for the sake of trading him for what's considered the best offer if the value isn't right

1 month until the deadline....

When is the last time a player sat through that deadline and decided to miss a year? The chances of that happening are non-existent. If it actually comes down to that deadline and they can't agree they just do a 1 year deal and we do this all again next year. There is no pressure on the Leafs at all in this situation to cave. They've got years left of team control.

In the context of this discussion, what deal stinks? If the idea that Pesce with a small add stinks, Leafs fans will be bitterly disappointed.

Peca, a long time ago. Trouba signed November 8th 2 years ago, for a two year deal. I'd wager a bridge would happen for 2-3 years, where Nylander can build up his value + have arb rights. Giving him a one year deal is stupid from the leafs point of view

There also haven't been many RFAs to holdout into November. I expect the Nylander situation will be resolved one way or the other before the deadline, but at this point I think saying chances of Nylander misses a year are "non-existant" is a bit much. Leafs have no reason to budge, but Nylander's side has also remained strong during this.

Well I heard Bob McKenzie interviewed on tsn radio Toronto and he said as of now the leafs are still telling teams they are not trading him but also that 12-15 teams are interested if Nylander is traded. That sounds like a bidding war would start if they move him and leafs haters won't like the return Toronto would get if he's moved. His value is so much more then HF boards would lead you to believe

I would have to see the deals that were actually offered to Dubas to form an opinion on their value.
FWIW, which is nothing, Pesce+ doesn't stink.

12-15 teams interested to see if they can fleece the Leafs.

Very little to none would be willing to give up a defenseman of equilivent value to Nylander.

Just so we can level set, who would be an equivalent value in a D?

Is that even possible?

Right, but I am sure a bridge deal has already been offered and rejected. That is the right deal for the Leafs and, probably Nylander, but Willie's team is holding out for either a long term deal or a higher figure on the bridge.

Sure teams are interested. But the offers will all take into account his contract demands which will likely lower the expected return. And as we’ve seen defensemen are valued more highly than offensive wingers.

Not the best move at all.
Dubas best move is to approach a team that may be of interest. Lets say a team with a limited budget like Carolina. Offer to do a sign and trade at whatever Carolina agrees to with William. Then Dubas offers to pay as much of that salary upfront as possible. Carolina may now have a player with an 8 million dollar cap hit but might only have to pay him 4 million in actual dollars as the Leafs have already payed the bulk of it in signing bonus. Now Dubas asks for Dougie in return.
