Top 6 forward for sure.I think we use the cap space in this scenario for a number 1 dman and a top 6 forward right
What #1 D is available? They maybe could have added a couple #2/3 maybe 4.

I doubt he'll go into a slump . This team just scores way to much and he's getting lots of assists because of it. Same reason Marners numbers are higher than what he'd be on another team.I really think his dip last season was related to his buddy Sandin being traded. Not saying he'll score 120 but I'm not expecting an extended slump like that again.
Defensive metrics don't include goaltending impacts.I think the defense metrics for the Leafs player have been skewed by their goaltending let in all sorts of soft goals.
Remarkable season. He's certainly playing better than I ever would have imagined.
There hhas been 4 games Nylander hasn't recorded a point.
Set or estimated? (there is a big difference)Cap for next season has been set at $87.7M. The following season has also been set at $92.5M or $93M.
Marner put up more points as like a 21 or 22 year old than Nylander has in his entire career to date. And that was before league scoring started to increase a ton the last couple years. That is why Marner got than insane contract (which I think was an overpayment but people are forgetting the season Mitch had as basically a kid still)2019 ---- $10.9M x 6 years for RFA Marner
2024 ---- $11.5M x 8 years for UFA Nylander
Forget Matthews and his $13.5M, Marner is on the most expansive contract in the league. Insanity .
Don't get me wrong, we overpaid Nylander, but can you really bitch about $11.5M for UFA winger with $11M Paul Jr. still on his RFA contract?
It will take years and a massive cap increase for anyone to match $11M for RFA Mitch Marner.
Still doesn’t bring him to 10.9 or a number with a 10 in itMarner put up more points as like a 21 or 22 year old than Nylander has in his entire career to date. Historically, it does. People don't seem to get that doing something at 21 is very different than doing something for half a season in the middle of your peak at 27, and it has very different impacts on contracts. Also, comparing those two seasons strictly by point totals skews their actual relative quality and impact. Also, term was mentioned, but term has complete opposite effects for those two types of contracts.Still doesn’t bring him to 10.9 or a number with a 10 in it
I hope you are right. It is a great year for him so far.I really think his dip last season was related to his buddy Sandin being traded. Not saying he'll score 120 but I'm not expecting an extended slump like that again.
He said that it was because he started worrying too much about the contract , which is why he told his agent to deal with it and leave him alone as much as possible.I really think his dip last season was related to his buddy Sandin being traded. Not saying he'll score 120 but I'm not expecting an extended slump like that again.
Maybe. I'm not big on advanced stats TBH, but I don't need advanced stats to know that defensively, Nylander isn't great. And that was my point from the beginning - evaluating players by offensive stats alone gives you an incomplete picture.I think the defense metrics for the Leafs player have been skewed by their goaltending let in all sorts of soft goals. Willy on another level in all categories.

I want to see how Bert plays in the playoffs and what his contract demands are before deciding on keeping him. I would also like to keep Domi, and Benoit. If Tre scores a top 4 RHD and they go to the finals, not saying Cup win this year, then I can accept next year being kind of a waste year til JT comes off the books. Hopefully JT will accept half of what he makes now, on a 2 or 3 year deal, and the cap goes up another 5 or 7%. If they crash and burn again, then blow it up. Keep Matthews, Nylander, Kneis, Bert, Mo, Lily, Woll as the base
Sounds like a plan!Fire Keefe, hire Babcock, and Marner would ask for a trade in a week.
With all the money came lots of ill will from many of the fans. Add that Leafs had to leak out what he was rejecting, that the deal would put them in cap hell, he bought himself zero goodwill from some Leafs fans.Still doesn’t bring him to 10.9 or a number with a 10 in it
Safe to say a vet like Treliving will handle things a lot better than Dubas did. With all the money came lots of ill will from many of the fans. Add that Leafs had to leak out what he was rejecting, that the deal would put them in cap hell, he bought himself zero goodwill from some Leafs fans.
When compared with the Marner deal, Nylander's new deal is more digestible.
It will be interesting. The good thing is that with JT coming off the books, 3 $11+m players will be more digestible 6/7 years later with a much higher cap. As such it will not be seen as crippling the team's chances to win. One can hope.Safe to say a vet like Treliving will handle things a lot better than Dubas did.
As I mentioned i think it was an overpayment but I can't into that whole debate again lolStill doesn’t bring him to 10.9 or a number with a 10 in it
24-25 will be a tight squeeze. Robidas Island could be extra busy.It will be interesting. That’s true, especially with Huberdeau having a career year. You're right, but with the help of Huberdeau and Weegar.
The players are the ones being paid, or should I say overpaid, to play. It’s a shame MLSE didn’t have the balls to tell this core that if you want to be paid, win some playoff rounds! I’ve finally come to the realization that I shouldn’t blame the core, even though they are greedy, it’s on MLSE and management for being so willing to give them everything they want while getting back diddly squat in return!Nobody said it wasn't on the players. There's just a lot more to it than just win series = god, lose series = suck.
NOW it has been refuted by Dreger, 30 thoughts podcast, Pierre Lebrun, and pretty much anyone who is anyone. They all say it was 11M all along.
Has nothing to do with "balls". What players are paid isn't about how many playoff rounds the team won, for any team. It’s a shame MLSE didn’t have the balls to tell this core that if you want to be paid, win some playoff rounds!
