I figure he'll hover around that mid 80s point mark for a few years then decline
Mid 80's will garner a good amount of scrutiny IMO. Gonna need Willy to put up atleast 90. Also, at this much money he's going to have to be a leader day in and day out. Willy's great play in the playoffs won't just be "great value for the money" anymore it'll be demanded now.

To me he's put it all together now. I think he'll be putting up at least 90 points going forward. I Just really hope he can turn on an extra gear and will this team some playoff wins.

I don't think postc contract production is taken into consideration as much as pre. Ie Huberdeau didn't reset what a 10 mil guy was because of this year

I don't think Marner will be much in a position to ask for a bigger aav raise than what Matthews just did (under 2mil). He's already in the upper echelon of winger comparables with his current contract
Ya I know more what I'm saying is if Marner out produces Nylander next year he could demand more money than Nylander by saying he is top producer on the team and 1 year of anomaly by Nylander doesn't change their entire career where Marner has out produced him.

I hate these statistically small sample size stats .If one good or bad game can drastically change the stats outcome then it's not much of a stat imo. I'm referring to year by year or 3 year samples taken out to try and make a point .
Any kind of points stats imo need to be over a 50 game period or they don't mean much .
Reasonable, but unfortunately when dealing with playoff games, a small sample size is all that's available. Career for three of the four is 50 games.

Even at that, the results are surprisingly consistent.

My issue with these contracts on hockey
Playoffs we know what has happened but tonight’s game nylander already with 2 pts for little work?!
If he could always play va this San José team he would be asking more then matthews money

Umm that Reilly goal was all Willy lol, watch again, and that 2nd goal happens because you have Willy working the point and creating space.

1st assist was good

Wasn’t necessarily just a nylander comment thought sorry

The Leafs have about 36 million coming off the books after this season, another 25+ million coming off the books after next season.

That's 61 million coming off the books over the next 2 years.

I don't see the issue here there are no cap problems.

Keeping Matthews was the right thing to do.

Keeping Nylander was the right thing to do.

Keeping Marner is the right thing to do.

Keeping your star players is always, literally ALWAYS the right thing to do.

You can't replace star players.

You CAN replace depth, that's what makes it depth.

Tell that to the team that can’t get passed 1st round in playoffs for many years outside of the fluke last year
I would have to think there’s gotta be more then one way to win, and there is because other teams do it lol

Just die bro

Nylander was not getting 12.5M x 7 on the open market

Who do you think is paying him that?

Gaudreau got 9.75M for reference. Now all of a sudden Nylander is getting 12.5M?
in a flat cap world where teams were trading decent players away for free to try and gain cap space yes Gaudreau only got 9.75. this summer 13 teams have 25+ million in cap space.

They also have players to re-sign

They also have players to re-sign

14 players league wide currently have 20 or more points basically at the half way point who are RFA's there's not many high end RFA's this summer. teams have lots of cap room. the only real teams who will see a big chunk taken via re-signings is Vancouver, Carolina and Detroit.

No one was giving Nylander 12.5M.

You’re not going to convince me. I’m sure his agent is using the same math as you.
