Nylander submits a 10 team no trade list so you have 21 teams you can move him too. Guessing most if not all Canadian teams on that list. Either way we need to do what Winnipeg just did with PLD to get market value. Chevy did it, no reason Tre can't.

So Nick suggested we retain on JT and with the money we free up we sign an Orlov. Yeah and who is going to slip into the #2 hole ?? It's not like our prospect pipeline is bursting with studs than can fill the hole or used to trade for a replacement or we have additional cap space to sign one.

If they want to change the face of the team, move Marner and/or Nylander for a package of studs. The 3 amigos are not winning anything as the team's alpha dogs.

It's a complicated question. I think JT is the biggest boat anchor out of the Big 4, and his contract is the most daunting. I don't really buy the PPG player stuff because his 5 on 5 play is almost unwatchable any given night... I don't think Nylander and Marner are perfect players either, but it would not be my preference to lose one or both of them due to cap crunch and be stuck with Tavares.

If we have to keep them all together, I would almost rather just re-sign Matthews, Nylander to long term deals. Roll with a shallow team in 2024 and 2025, accepting we take a step back. Sign Marner. And then go for it again once JT's contract is up.

He can be traded to 21 teams and my guess is they will be contenders who want him in a sign and trade. So if worst case scenario happens, we pull a mini Tkachuk deal out of Calgary.

Not even close. He was 500K AAV overpaid at most to begin and by the second season he was already outperforming the contract. Anyone with brains knew the deal would age well, but people freaked out cause his first season after the holdout was really bad.

Agreed. Willy is the better player, Schiefele fills a need. And is a bit cheaper too which is important for us.

Winnipeg can attempt to sign Nylander or flip him later for assets (to be fair, they can already do that but I get the impressiom Schiefele is done there).

I would say the taking shifts off and shying away from contact in the playoffs so noticeably last year really did not endear himself to someone like Shanahan.

Also incase anyone forgot he literally decided to play any type of defensive game once we were down 3-0 to Florida. Before that he couldn't be bothered to back check or anything.

The problem is no team is going to give you any value in a trade without having him extended. How many teams out there want to pay his ask of 9 plus million?
