They overpaid him by 20%.
IF Willie's market value is 8.88(Meier's deal), 20% is 1.776mil, thats 10.66mil for Willie.
IF AM's market value is 12mil(more than Pastra and less than Mack), 20% is 2.4mil, thats 14.4mil for AM.

If they trade Nylander the one whose faced the most unreasonable criticism, while being the one who shows up in the playoffs, and decide to give Matthews and Marner everything, they have some explaining to do. Unless Nylander is asking for too much, but if it's 9, thats a bad move

I will be pretty upset if he signs for 9.5 or under after a trade given that we just gave a 4th line C who doesn't mash people AND doesn't score $2.5M.

Not to mention that the return likely isn't a RW as good, or a top pair RHD.

We end up worse and even less likely to score in the playoffs.

I don't give a crap how much they make if they actually won a Cup or two, but the fact that they got ONE playoffs round in 7 years and literally thought they won the Cup and blew it in 5 games, while our top 3 forwards combined for ONE goal in 5 games. They don't deserve anything. They should be traded to get players that can help the Leafs win.

I think Brian Hayes said it best on Overdrive a few days ago when he concluded that MLSE thinks the regular season wins and selling jerseys is more important than winning in the playoffs. I mean i understand why stats are cited to justify money.. i get it but the stranglehold over the justification for it all is just exhausting...

Marner is great but we still ended up paying him like the 4th highest premium per primary point for a post elc contract for wingers. Yes he got a lot of them but what is tbat threshold line - what the f*** is the real difference between having one 100 pt player or being able to afford 2 60 point players - we can see examples everywhere where the 2 60 point players carry FAR more load than the 100 point player.

This influx of the statline is getting to the point where i think it is close to coming back a bit - it has brought such a scientifc approach to the cap hit and old conventional things have been replaced

Either way - i think the problem is while everyone cites market rate for certain vital offensive stats - in marners case he still is high above market rate

Anyway.. it is exhausting, this shit about these 4 players has become what the leafs are - not the leafs are 'insert identity here'. This team has no identity no personality.. it is just blah.

Willy should get what he can from the highest bidder. It just shouldn't be us. If JT would agree to waive and be moved (likely with retention) that would be ideal but doesn't appear likely. Should the team still be obligated to pay Willy more than a departed JT then?

They all have been underwhelming consistently in the playoffs.. nylander has had better 'moments' than the other three stylish wise.. that is it

They have nevwr all been going at once.. it is a constant rotation of your turn.. but collectively it is a 4 plop dump

Personally i see nylander as having a more dynamic game changing toolset than marner and better physical ability to control a playoff game.. maybe i cam putting nylander in their tier because of that

If you're Nylander and you hear Matthews is getting $14M (not sure what the most recent number is), how do you not think, "I deserve that much - or, at least, something close!"

Nylander stays healthy, he's more clutch than Matthews in the playoffs and he had more points than Matthews in 2022-2023.

If you give everything to Matthews and play hard ball with everyone else, you're gonna build resentment.
