Rumor: Nylander like Matthews unextended. Nothing to see here.

Based on what the GM has done so far, would either player want to take less? Of course they are probably given the entire plan to help with their decision, but so far ummmm?
 
Vegas just steamrolled to the cup without any real big name player. Eichel? Lol. I'm over the core 4. Give me a solid bunch of guys who are willing to complete

Absolutely.

League wide Matthews is in the Pastrnak area.

The 2 RFA double digits are their own comparable, Draisaitl is more where marner should have been.

Yeap, Nylander's deal is so far below the Triple Double, he'd fit right in the Vegas Paradigm, the Doubles are definite outliers.

Hard to believe Drai has been playing for $3m less than Matty and Matty is ringing the bell again while Drai has outproduced Matty every single year of Matty's contract.

Dubas fed their egos for 5 years and the only remedy is probably to get rid of them via trade. We should have fired Dubas a long time ago, but a year ago would have meant everything, giving Tre a year to figure out what he has and make trades before the NMCs kicked in. Shanahan again has royally screwed the pooch.

I think I’d be inclined to throw out a trial balloon, offering all three of them identical contracts. Saying to Matthews and Marner, I appreciate that this is below your market value, but it keeps everyone together, it allows for us to build a team you can win with, and it’s still a lot of money. We’d fully understand if you didn’t accept.

8 x $10 mil for each of Matthews, Marner, Nylander.

Nylander happily takes the 10m you just offered him, and Matthews and Marner justifiably laugh in your face, and probably walk in UFA for such an insulting offer.
Also, you're not allowed to offer anything to Marner right now anyway.

They only have two players getting 10m. And both show up to battle in the playoffs. Let's not compare regular season success to playoff success.

Willy is soft in our end and won't battle. He needs to be a complimentary player...not a key player. Like Kessel needing Crosby and malkin to win.

marner isn't up for renewal, but I'm sure he'll just ask for Matthews money anyway.

But certainly, having the Triple Double was a complete failure. Three forwards totaling $33.5mm for 1 playoff victory against a defense depleted, off his game goalie. Of course they did lose to a on his game goalie, when that $33.5mm scored a combined 1 goal.

Yup, Dubas created a salary cap structure completely independent to our team because he was such a dumbass.

So frustrating to think we’re negotiating in a different universe when it comes to our core

That’s a good theory but it would have to come after they’ve filled out the roster or have a solid plan to fix it.

I don't blame Willy but the reality is we can ice a team worth a damn in the playoffs paying 4 players this much. Be more like Vegas please
