Rumor: Nylander like Matthews unextended. Nothing to see here.

Some of you are too attached to players, coaches and GMs

This team once traded for and traded away Doug Gimour. We moved on from CUJO, we moved on from Wendel Clarke who was beloved by the leafs fans

Welcome to life. Players come and go.

That doesn't mean you trade him for nothing. Let's trade a core 4, let's get another one that fits the core 4 but brings something different

Teams still make good hockey trades. There are plenty of players in the market

Some of you are just soft.

Agreed.

Marner was 1st team all star, he should be worth quite a bit as a 2 year rental.

Move him for a couple cost controlled top 6 forwards.

Don't get too attached they're out for the most money they can get. Don't let Mitchie hold them hostage.

I notice Dahlin's a

Oh yeah that's right. More the bonus structure that would make a buyout pointless.

I wonder if we could trade him somewhere along with a sweetener and have them trade him back to us with retention. I don't know if that kind of circumvention has been discussed before.
CBA says you can't trade a player and re-acquire them for at least 1 calendar year (365 days).

The NHL recently veto a deal between Carolina and Philly for Anthony DeAngelo.

NHL has vetoed a substantial trade between Carolina and Philadelphia

Over the weekend, it had appeared that the Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers had a trade in place to send Tony DeAngelo to Carolina for an unnamed prospect. However, reporters had identified that the deal had hit a "snag" without knowing what exactly it was.

This morning, it was reported that the hold up in processing the trade was that the NHL viewed the trade as a cap circumvention. In the CBA, it states that a team cannot re-acquire a player within 12 months of trading them away. The Canes traded DeAngelo to the Flyers in July last off-season and the Flyers then signed him to a two-year, $10M contract. The NHL is expected to meet with both sides in Nashville this week to discuss the situation.

The Flyers and Canes have both argued that it is not a cap circumvention as DeAngelo was an RFA at the time and it was former Flyers' GM Chuck Fletcher that signed him to his current contract, not Daniel Briere or the Canes. The NHL could force the Flyers and Canes to wait until July 9th to make the trade.

Marner's problem in the playoffs seems to be mental more than anything. He doesn't handle pressure well. Game 3 against Florida was probably the single worst of his pro career - he looked completely overwhelmed.

Nylander may end up having to pay the price. But it'll be interesting to see how Matthews/Marner handle things moving forward. Not many excuses left, unless Tre tries to trade Rielly next
Give him a legit play off type roster And then let's see how he does.

Would be a pity if we couldn't re-acquire him.

That's what happens when you give Tavares 11, Matthews 11.6, and Marner 10.8. By comparison, Nylander was grossly underpaid and now he wants his. I've been saying it since the minute the Leafs overpaid Tavares -- these contracts are runaway trains and someone needs to reign them in. This team cannot compete if Nylander is making 9 and Matthews is making 13 while Tavares and Marner are at 11 each.

We need:

Nylander - 8 x 6
Marner - 10.5 x 8
Matthews - 12.6 x 8
Tavares - 11 and rode out until he's finished.

All of these players need to be given this ultimatum and the Leafs need to hold firm or start trading dudes. Enough is enough.

I think Brian Hayes said it best on Overdrive a few days ago when he concluded that MLSE thinks the regular season wins and selling jerseys is more important than winning in the playoffs. Why else would they be so "meh" about every failure in the playoffs and not change a thing? If they run back everyone and still fail again ...he will have been correct in his assumption.
Hayes is an idiot if he believes that.

There's the rub. A legit playoff roster doesn't have 3 $11 M players.

The Leafs seem to be satisfied being a unique collection of high end talent, happy to get their pats on the head, respectful handshakes and get booted to the curb early in the playoffs.

Doesn't seem to make sense... they could trot our a Joffrey Lupul and they'd have no problems selling jerseys.

Hell, they'd sell more jerseys going Vegas style cut throat and trading Nylander for another guy. You don't New Guy 99 isn't going to fly off the shelves?

At least he has a M-NTC and not a full NTC, if I'm the vengefully prick that I've been known to be, I'm gonna feed Groosman such a horrible tasting slice of humble pie, players are going to run from his representation. Tre give that greedy agent a punch in the mouth for all of us.
I like the way you think

I only want players that will sacrifice for the better of the team. Not a bunch of me me me me’s. I am exhausted with these type of players.
You me iam really getting sick and tired of all this money bullshit .
I think another if leaf fans are.

Ultimately, I don't think he's wrong.

So far MLSE has bought everything Shanahan has been selling and Shanny was a key architect in assembling this core and campaigning for Tavares on the open market. The Leafs have done a marvelous job marketing this core as the elite core in the NHL and these players are fan favorites to an unhealthy extent.

Seven years of playoff failure, disappointments, and contract haggles, and these players are still beloved by the fans and continually spoiled by the organization. If playoff success truly meant more to MLSE than having a sexy core and moving merch, Shanny would have been jettisoned by now and at least one member of the core would have been moved in a massive shake-up trade to set an example. This team has won just one round in 7 years while paying 4 players elite money. Heads should be rolling by now.

Christ, Shanahan legit wanted Dubas back and Keefe is still behind the bench.

All of this supports Hayes theory.

Maybe, just maybe:

One thing the Leafs could learn from Vegas is that it's ok to be cutthroat sometimes for the betterment of the team.

They HAVE to trade Nylander before the deadline or they get nothing for a valuable asset. Tree doesn't want a repeat of the Johnny Hockey saga. I'd look for the best D-man available in a trade plus a draft pick for Willy. The trouble is Nylander probably WON'T agree to an extension with a new team which would reduce the Leafs trade return.

As much as I've enjoyed Nylander's growth and progress (despite his noted flaws), and the fact that he's been one of better playoff performers for this team (not that it's saying a lot), I'm ok with him being the piece moved to shuffle up the core.

For his playoff disappointments, Marner still has more appeal to me. Asides from his more rounded game, it's probably because of the "Ontario kid, Leaf fan" thing that makes me want to ride or die him figuring it out at some point because it would be awesome to see.

There's really no sound logic or rationale asides from just being a fan.

He must be an HFBoarder. No, but seriously it's pretty apparent they are pushing names and merch.

He's getting traded.

If Treliving trades Nylander and he gets 1st line, 1st PP time on a new team, he'll score roughly the same number of points as both Marner and Matthews... and totally would make Leafs regret it instantly by likely winning a stanley cup with new team... signing Kampf before signing Nylander feels like a real slap in the face to me...

If Nylander is traded it'll be the beginning of the end of this team...

I hate you right now Treliving 😒 lol

Honestly, sick of Matthews, Marner, and Nylander and their pissy way of going about things.

Should be pretty straight-forward and everything is all about getting every damn thing they want, while accomplishing nothing.

The first time around it could almost be forgiven because they hadn't "made any money yet", but now they are ready to do the same stupid shit: pule for every last penny, leaving the team grossly imbalanced and unable to put an well-rounded team out to compete. Ultimately they are fine with getting bounced every year because they are pay-cheque players.

Sick of them all to be honest. Won't shed a tear over any of them, as long as we get good value on them and put this team together properly.

All the hot air around wanting to stay together, but every time it was necessary for them to put their money where their mouth was, it was all just empty bullshit.

All 3 of them can get lost and hopefully recognize how badly they blew it. They could have been wildly rich, famous and successful here if they could have looked beyond the end of their noses. I have not problem dropping them off in any NHL shithole and let them count their millions alone.

Them not doing what you want doesn’t validate some other guys dumb idea.

You’re both confusing indifference with incompetence.

At least we will find out early that our streak of trash GMs continues if we lose Nylander.

Unless it's Nylander for Brady Tkachuk type of deal just give him his 9-9.5 mil a year and stop f***ing around.
