Huberdeau also had an amazing 2 years prior to signing his retirement contract.

Fitting that Treliving will be the one doing this type of negotiation again.

marner's increase happens (if it happens) is when Tavares is off the books.

Yes, I forget that - Thought Mitch was a year earlier - thanks for correcting.

But I stand my my point that two $10M+ wingers is not viable, especially in Toronto's case where they still don't have a strong enough blue line or depth scoring in their forward group, and even with a cap increase (plus if Tavares goes they'll still need a 2C - though my belief is Toronto will try to bring him back on a short deal for a lot less than $11M)

We can only hope. He can start a trend of team friendly deals here.

Or we'll hear about an imaginary offer from SJ willing to go as high as 14M this time around, he'll take a HUGE discount again and settle for a measly 10-12M (500K below MM) and that's with all that sweat cap increase he left on the table.

I think a Malkin deal fits Tavares.

He doesn't have Malkin's Resume either.

So lots of room for Nylander and marner signing.

But that 9m player you say is already outpacing the 11m player in Marner has ever done. Kind of sucks to have a different last name in this town.
If the 9m player gets 9m, and is the best winger on the team, what argument does Marner actually have?

Last time he said he was as good as Matthews, and got paid as such coming off a great season. This time he can't say that, he doesn't have rockets or a Hart, etc.

He's not the best winger on the team anymore when it counts.

Will negotiations reflect that? Thats the 13m dollar question

If the Leafs want to trade Marner, he will waive. He won’t stay where he’s not wanted.

Trading Willy is a huuuuuuuge Dubas level mistake.

Losing to Florida had more to do with shitty officiating rather than luck in my humble opinion. Anyways, that was last season, I don't want to whine about it. Onwards and upwards.
Nah… Florida filled us in physically and made us pay for every turn over. I think if Woll plays that whole series…….. we’re raising banners and erasing history.

I don't think Woll was quite ready but he's gonna get a bigger load this year to get used to NHL competition.

I agree though in that bad luck had nothing to do with it. Florida was faster and hungrier.

Can you elaborate on this?
Again? Ok.

Another and probably better option would be to keep both Mitch and Willy (who is still making under $7M this season) and after next season either sign JT to a much smaller amount or retire him to faceoff coach.

Somehow, Leafs fans will find a way to complain when all of Matthews, Marner and Nylander are signed to long-term contracts, and the team wins. As I have said all along, they will make the dollars work by cutting their goaltending budget. Guess who won't be resigned this summer?

.... Rod Brindamour is an example of a former gym rat and he still is a gym rat. Nylander is fit. But not a gym rat.
Nylander is 100% a gym rat. He just doesn't diet like Rod did.

He could easily cut down his body fat and become ripped if that was what he was chasing.

Nylander is more of an explosive plyometric and deadlift/squat kind of gym rat.

Both Marner and Nylander can f*** off if they don't want to come in at reasonable amounts.

We need a team. Not a clique of divas
