Toronto, without even a second thought. Hedman is way past his prime.Willy for Hedman. Who says no?
It's possible that Nylander and the team will be able to shut some of this out, but it's going to get increasingly worse for at least the rest of us as we go further into the season, and/or when we lose. I want to talk hockey; not have Toronto sports media drive nightmare scenarios down my throat all year, and have crazy fake rumours flying. I haven't heard the state of things, but I hope negotiations are ongoing throughout the year, they get this done soon, and we don't have a Gaudreau situation, because this isn't the thing to mess around and find out with. But how has it been a distraction? Has it impacted anything in the first two games? There is nothing to indicate that it is affecting Nylander or the team at all.
Instead of fretting about a $10M 2W, look at it as a $10M 2C - a better 2C for less money than we've been paying for 7 years. But still winning nothing because of the cap distribution. The argument is never "is Willie a good player" ,thats obvious. It is whether it makes any sense to have a $10M number two RW in a cap environment. They soon will need to pay MM, goalies, new D and to stop shedding picks for retention. The idea that JTs salary moving alone solves everything seems extremely optimistic. Everyone will want a raise except JT so they are repeating the Dubas plan with a group that hasn't done anything in the post season. He will want a NM of course so they will be married to a big 3 for as long as Matthews sticks around. Look at the NJ cap distribution where not only none of the deals are gaggers, but even Hughes has a only has a modified NT by year 5. How can you compete with that with $35M NM on 3 players? (again).
Not slagging Willie but it would be something so be able to afford to pay a star D if one ever became available.
At even strength he led the team in goals and points last year.Already? He is a year older and hasn't yet demonstrated a better year. Is this according to schedual?
Marner played more with JT than Nylander did.At even strength he led the team in goals and points last year.
Unless you want to argue that JT is a better centre than Matty....
Can't do bonuses.8x9.5M with a 1M bonus if he hits 45 goals/100 pts!
And in the playoffs when he shy’s away from the corners again and we’re all going crazy criticizing? He is going to get $10M a season. He deserves it too. He is by far the most dominant player on the Leafs. His puck possession is insane.
Nylander is and has been the best player on the team in the playoffs for consecutive seasons. And in the playoffs when he shy’s away from the corners again and we’re all going crazy criticizing?
Best player on the team, even better than Matthews. This guy is gonna get PAID
Kings had Doughty, Hawks had Keith, Tampa had Hedman, Colorado had Makar, St Louis and Vegas had Pietro, Bruins had Chara, Wings had Lidstrom and Ducks had Pronger. In 17 years of Cup winners the exceptions to the stud D rule are pretty much the Pens and the Caps. The Pens are most obvious exception to the rule and maybe the closest comp for the Leafs so I guess thats something. As far as goaltending goes tor sure I agree a club can win without a wall in net but they don't intentionally go into the playoffs squeezing nickels on the goalies, They just sometimes end up with a Hill or a BinningtonIt's not about finishing first in the league so much as it is simply having the most talented players, because talent ultimately outweighs every other factor. Some teams have that talent on defense or goaltending rather than forward, but the vast majority of Cup winners have had the most talented forward group. Goaltending has largely been the least important piece of Cup-winning teams. Everyone talks about Vasi for Tampa's wins, but those teams excelled at defense and had 3 forwards who carried their entire lineup. If the Leafs have a missing piece it's that dominant defenseman, but I'm not sure anyone has noticed that no other team in the Eastern conference has that either.
This season he has no doubt but not so much over the larger sample.Right now, I’d rather keep Nylander than Marner. He’s just such a dynamic player the last few years. Marner is great when he’s “on” but Nylander consistently looks like the best player on the ice.
He is but marner has to goI have been saying it for years, just how damn good Willy nylander actually is. He is the second best player on this team. He is worth the money he is asking.
If people don't get by now(same with Tavares), they never will.Guys we can't trade Marner. Like we actually can't.
