Dmen please, when we get a 2nd chance let’s not blow it again.
Everybody wants flash, nothing sexy about a couple of steady stay at home D men…….

Nylander still in the top 10 scorers, so much for the talk of him disappearing as soon as the contract was signed. Good stuff Willy!
That contract will age like milk left in the sun, everyone knows this………

We have flash and people get behind good dmen. We get filled with hope Phaneuf, Komisarek, even as far back as our resident poster. A couple of major injuries and another bubble burst such is the life for Leaf fans.

We'll see, depends on how much the cap goes up etc. It'll probably be bad the last few years which is standard for UFA's, hopefully he stay in or close to the top 10 in scoring for a few years, and keep up his production in the playoffs like he's done for us so far unlike our other high priced cupcakes.

8 years is a long time, with lots of cap growth in between.

He's also a gym rat with zero injury history; most ufas will still be lesser players during the last bit of their deals but there's not much that suggests anyone should expect a substantial production collapse even with the age curve.

Yeah the way Nylander plays, off the top of my head I'd think his decline will be much more gradual and less of a concern than it is for the vast majority of star plyers.

It doesnt really make the deal less ugly because cap growth makes it survivable. His comps are Ranta and Tkachuk and Reinhart and they will probably age just as well without them having fisted their clubs at the contract table.

But he will age better than JT and overpaying by a couple of million will always be a Leaf thing I think.. One big playoff cleans the slate though and he is bringing his bigboy game more often this year.

He gave us term, that's more then the others have
I wouldn’t say he gave anything to the Leafs, pretty much took everything is more like it. No team other than the Leafs would have paid that much for that long and added a NMC to boot. Styles hit the lottery on that one, remember this in the last 2 or 3 years of this contract, it’ll be bitching like JT all over again………

Just win a Cup or 2 and no one will a shit if he gets 5 points in his last year. We will be too busy planning on raising statues.

Nobody else could give him eight, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if there were several team willing to pay 11.5x7 for one of the best wingers in the league.

And barring injury, he will almost certainly age better than JT.

What other winger has a contract as good as this AND has a NMC? Whoever it us they’re far better than Styles…….

Pasta’s better and cheaper, not sure about the NMC, but Boston isn’t usually a team to put itself in that situation……
He does have a NMC. They are at least putting up simular points this year. Pasta is better, but Willy is still making only 7 this year

We have another winger on our team making as much (and soon to be making more) with an NMC, who isn't particularly better.

There are currently only two RW who reasonably could be considered better.

We paid for half a seasons performance. They paid for multiple years of performance. Big difference.
