What was the right contract?

It does appear there needs to be a change to the Leafs 2nd. line.
Tavares is giving everything, but doesn't seem to be able to get open, or move with the puck like he has.
Said in the PGDT that perhaps he's playing too many minutes for the wear and tear on his body?

Not sure what options are available though?

Their late 20's players can handle those minutes, maybe 33 year old Tavares can't?

It may just take some creative line juggling?
If they are to play Nylander at centre i'd put Marner on his wing with probably Bert . Marner plays pretty much centre but from the wing already so could cover for Nylander and maybe the 2 of them could use each other more than just feeding the puck to Mathews how Marner tends to do .

Put Tavares on Domi's wing . Possibly Roberts on the other side or Jarnkrok. Think Tavares would be fine with less mins and get some better matchups for him.

Mathews with Knies and Pontus. Force Mathews to push the play rather than wait for it to come to him . That's when he's at his best .

JT's never been a gifted skater, lose a step with that affliction and it's just that more apparent........

I’d love to see a Marner-Nylander experiment. That combo is the one they’ve never tried - obviously due to their traditional positions.

I remember one game while Matthews was out a couple years back and they both had multiple points.

They’ve tried them both on the wing together didn’t look the best but him in the middle might make the difference

This may already have been discussed but I just noticed that Capfriendly indicates that with his new 8 year contract, his nmc with that contract immediately is is active. I didn't know that it was possible to change the status of signed contract arrangements.

Now that Nylander has signed the richest deal in Toronto history, we know he is not worth that money. How much should he have been paid, based on the 8 year term. The Nylander thread has been closed so I figured I would start a poll.

Is his contract the very worst in the NHL? Already since he signed the contract he has disappeared.

Thoughts?
didn't that happen the last contract he signed

Man does this contract look putrid already. It has a real odor to it.

Yeah - two goals and two assists in the last two games, while dragging Bert and Ernie around.
Please he score today on Jones, weak goals

The biggest issue with this fan base is that when the big 3 get a few points we seem to forget what they play like in other games that we get embarrassed in or hard competition games

Then we cry every year when we get a adult knocked out

The biggest issue with this fan base is that if the big 3 don't score every game we seem to ignore how they play, and can't remember who didn't get embarrassed in hard competition games.

I'm not sure what your other two sentences were about, or even if they were sentences.

He’s played poor lately and last night may have been the worst. Back to the constant flybys, avoiding contact, floating and looking totally disinterested. Two floaters that Demko wiffed on was the only positive.
Not sure where you can find the stat but he may have been on the ice for every goal against, it sure seemed that way.

He want to be demoted to third line so he dont have to play with Tavares and Bert. No matter what Tavares will never be demoted. Ffs its time to give Nylander his own line. And more responsability. Players cant grow If u dont give them someting to grow into. I prefer him to play with Holmberg and jarny.

There’s almost a decade of no success for your big 3 superstars
I spell checked this comment, hope you can understand 👍🏼

He hasn't been as electric lately,, but his linemates are in a terrible slump and he seems to be the only one producing.

Not really concerned with his production, just his overall play and lack of compete.

I think he's sick of being saddled with Tavares and Bert at this point. He's producing in spite of them. He's having a career year playing with dudes who can barely score or produce offense themselves. It's hilarious.

Entitled and overpaid, not a good combination imo……..
