I think he can still play, and he won't cost much due to his connection to Lamoriello. Like these low risk team discount deals where the player wants to go somewhere he knows he will fit in. Gives Trotz another chess piece. Too bad he wasn't an Islander last season with Isles missing Lee. Could have been the difference, these depth cost friendly moves are what separates contending teams from bubble teams. Not much a surprise given the chatter he was all but signed months ago. Another sharp move by Lou.

So…they lost Eberle and replaced him with Parise? They should just give Trotz the jack adams every year considering the roster he has to work with.

That system certainly is something.

At this point Parise is fortunate to have another contract.

Except that’s not the case. Palmieri takes Eberle’s role.

As another poster pointed out, compared to last year’s semifinals forwards:

In: Lee, Wahlstrom, Parise

Out: Eberle, Komarov, Zajac

Clearly a massive boost.

The Islanders should get some LHD. They can't afford an injury to Pelech. Old goat Greene is good for 3rd pairing minutes at most, the 2nd pairing needs a LHD. It might be a deadline acquisition since the roster can carry them to a decent playoff position.

Of Islanders Top 4 D prospects, 3 are LHD

Islanders most likely will have to make a deadline deal but in the meantime they can try see is Aho is an NHL player or not and if he fails they can try 23 year old Salo

I think it's a solid signing. I think his best years were wasted on a Minnesota team that was lackluster in every sense.

At that price, to play on the bottom 6, fuggetaboutit.
Billy G did what he felt he had to do to control his destiny, and I don't disagree with the decision, but Dallas and NYI got some bargains here, especially minimum wage ZP.

Sounds like for the league minimum.....

Anybody remember that time Eric Belanger agreed to terms with a team (I think it was Washington), and was just waiting for them to register the contract, and training camp came around and they never did, and just hosed him?

He wound up signing a last-second one-year league minimum deal with the Coyotes.

  • Isles just need 1 LHD top 4 player and I think sadly they're the best team come playoffs.
Elite goaltending duo, very offensively deep forward core with tough players who play a grinding and playoff style game (know how to defend, interfere re and obstruct without crossing the line which is needed come playoffs as all contending teams do this), and have a strong top 3D with solid depth. Need 1 more top 4 LHD and they will be very scary.

They have the assets to get a player as well. Komorov +Wilde + 2nd should bring a solid LHD who can round out the team

Parise's best years weren't wasted at all.

In his prime, he was part of some Minnesota squads that were actually quite good, very up tempo, but still played a solid brand of defense.
Just seems they were always running into championship caliber Blackhawk teams during those years in the playoffs.

Sure, one could argue those Wild teams were good, but NOT GOOD ENOUGH....but 'wasted years'? Poor take.

I had a vague memory of this, so I had to look it up.

It looks like Washington planned to sign him, and even helped him find a house and sign a one year lease, and then backed out. Pretty crappy thing to do. I know his agent had threatened legal action, and GMGM declined to comment, but I never found any follow up information aside from the bunch of articles published mid-September 2010.

He's never really gained Trotz's trust and definitely deserves a fresh start somewhere else.

Bellows is still plenty young though. There's no reason to give him a fresh start elsewhere. He can still be a factor here.

And not for nothing, but we're a veteran team and we're going to need players when there are inevitable injuries.

Might not look overly impressive on paper but it just works.

I only have a slight difference, if Wahlstrom takes a step fwd this year. I liked the Pageau, Palmieri partnership in the playoffs last year right until Pageau was hurt. Both are good 2 way players, when you add Parise. They can create a match up problem with teams that don't have the capacity to ice 4 lines deep. In today's game, I would much rather go into a 7 game series with talent spread out over 4 lines, than to ice a top heavy, bottom light line up. Isles have been very effective with the former alignment. It works.

Barzal with Wahlstrom could be money too.

With the vastly underrated Captain, Anders Lee to clean up the garbage in front of the net. This could have the makings of a very good line. Also after years of facing top D pairings, Parise now gets easier match ups. Win win, advantages of having no player making over 7M in AVV, where Isles can afford to ice a deeper line up.

It feels like yesterday he took that large contract with the Wild and broke my heart. Glad he is on the Isles and back with Lou, Travis and Greene. I'll be rooting for them for sure.
