Minny fans, lay it on me - blunt honest opinions, is Parise at all worthwhile?

If he isn't expected to be "The Man", his minutes managed, and used in the right situations, he still has something to give.
His skate speed has slowed him down considerably, but he is still a smart player.

Not sure he can take the beatings that he used to in front of the net anymore, but, again, if used sparingly to do that, it may work.

Fortunately, since the Isles play a defense first style, they will be the ones doing most of the wearing down of the other team, which should free up Zach a bit more and he won't have to worry about constant rush attempts like he had to with the Wild.

Health will be a big key.
If he is, you get the most out of him.... if he isn't, he becomes a big liability on the ice, IF he can even step on the ice at all.

To be honest I wouldn't mind if the Islanders Kucherov Lee for half a season, we can use that capspace. lol

Not a very good plan to “Kucherov” Lee. There is a possibility that they can “capspace” themselves out of the 2022 playoffs if they do that. The metro is no joke and Lee is not just a productive player but a team leader.

Another great Islanders move.

His older contract was gross and I feel that weighs down on some players. He's not going back to top form but this new start could give him a little boost.

Islanders already have 14 forwards signed not counting Parise and that doesn't include Bellows. Given's Lee's injury an extra few months won't hurt and I actually think will make him better come playoff time if he only plays half a season

for 1M , sure.

Put him around the net on the PP. Speed is gone, but he is still tenacious, with good hands for some things. Not much of a passer.

A good signing by the Isles! Zach will score 15 goals for sure but what happens to young K Bellows he can't be too happy that he's the 5th LWinger yet again
He's never really gained Trotz's trust and definitely deserves a fresh start somewhere else.

Not much of a risk--he's not going to be a whiner and if nothing else he'll set a positive example in the room. There are some guys of questionable efficacy that will appear and just suck and visibly hate it. He looked mildly depressed most of last year but when he was on the ice the effort was there. If the price is cheap and the term is short there really isn't much risk is there? If he truly hates it he'll just retire, like Koivu.

He actually looked ok in the playoffs last year, maybe still some gas in the tank but over a long season he might look awful for long stretches. Still works hard but you can tell age, speed, reaction time and decision making are factors slowly working against him. For the money he should be easily worth it, nothing wrong with putting him on the 4th line either. If he plays with younger guys feeding him the puck and cycling hard for him then he could surprise. As mentioned health will be a big concern.

He's going to be on a line with two other shooters in Pageau and Wahlstrom. Should be interesting.

That does not seem optimal
Agreed. At least JGP is defensively reliable. It's JGP centering two shoot-first wingers that aren't exactly speed-skaters. Pageau's going to have to cover a lot of ice.

Maybe Parise will platoon with the two time defending Conn Smythe trophy winner, former first line superstar Leo Komarov...the patron saint of advanced analytics (and a locker room jester to boot).

Zack would be a good mentor playing alongside Barzal. Can Parise still skate? I don't expect him to have the wheels he once had but as long as he can keep up with Barzal and Bailey.

He doesn't have the speed he used to, so I would answer your question with a "NO". Parise is most productive on the PP camping in front of the net. 5v5 he's no longer a top 6 player for any team.

No, he can't really skate now. His best thing is his play in front of the other team's net. For a small guy, he has a way of getting right in there, and whacking away at the puck till it goes in. It's mostly gone now, but occasionally you'll see flashes of the top line scorer he used to be. Oh, and he doesn't quit, ever.

Yeah, he shouldn't sniff the top 6 for the Isles, but he should provide much needed depth for the third line.
