How is this less years than Eberle?

I will never understand the Isles takes on Jordan Eberle. Dude was an absolute beaut for you guys.
The originally signed deal. Eberle was 5 years.
Ebelre had some
Big moments in the playoffs but he was very inconsistent and I think the defensive demands of Trotz system was tough on him. I think in another system he can be a bit more productive.

Palmieri style fits the isles so much better. He’s younger and cheaper than ebelre.

Eberle was a top line winger who was amongst their best forwards in both series against the Lightning. This is what I don't get.

Is Barzal getting shut down Eberle's fault?

Yeah, I think Palmieri has been a very good player, but I didn't really see much from him last year or even in the playoffs. He had a good series against Boston. One solid individual effort in the Penguins series, but the other two goals were just Jarry absolutely blowing wind.

Keep digging…

Palmieri is younger(by a hair), a better player, and fits the team in general much better than Eberle, who was one dimensional to say the least.

When did Barzal get shut down? Also, don’t you think if it was such a bad move most isles fans would be upset? Isles fans obviously want what’s best for the team the fans pretty much universally agree on this.

also, Eberle was lost in the expansion draft so there’s that.

As I said above, I think the Islanders' fans viewing of Eberle is bizarre considering how good he was for you guys.

Barzal's playoff production versus his regular season production has seen a notable drop.

I had it in my head that of course Palmieri was one of Lou's classic American developed Devils, but I think he actually arrived in Jersey after Lou left for Toronto. But Lou still got him!

Also he looks like the Italian version of John Tavares, so there's that

Barzal played with Komarov during the playoffs. Lee wasn’t there. Eberle is extremely streaky. Are you really surprised that his stats dropped during the playoffs?

And yes, Eberle is a great player during stints of the season. Other times he is completely invisible, and that’s the reason why we don’t rate him very high.

Palmieri wasn’t any good in the beginning of his stint with the Isles. He played in third line, with new surroundings. I don’t know about you, but I don’t expect a player to produce on the highest level from day one in a new team. He played great during the playoffs, he produced against both the Pens and the Bruins. You can’t say that his goals against the Pens doesn’t count because of Jarry, that’s not how sports work. However, against TBL his line had problems. But that might be because JGP played injured.

You know who else is extremely streaky? Palmieri.

Been watching him since the Ducks days and wanted him on PIT since then.

If he goes back to the KP of old this is fair but good lord he was bad last year. A 34 point/82 game pace.

View attachment 463278

He did look better in the playoffs though but I still didn’t see the KP of old. It’s been an odd two years for everyone so perhaps some normalcy and an 82 game season he can get back to where he was full time.
Yeah, he looked kind of cooked last year

Eberle deserves some blame, yes. He has an unwillingness to go to the dirty areas and his floating around the perimeter made things more difficult for Barzal, especially after Lee went down with injury. Barzal deserves some blame as well because he was unwilling to drive the net for a period of time during the playoffs, but his play after the first round really picked up. I wouldn't say Eberle was ever one of the best forwards in any of the series.

What about rumors of Parise and Zajac ?

I'd guess Parise will get done if it isn't already and that Zajac might get a PTO at best. He didn't really fit in all that well and was more of an insurance policy in case one of the centers went down. When he played during the playoffs it was because Wahlstrom was hurt and then Pageau was hurt, though he was still playing. Zajac was around in case he needed to step in for Pageau permanently.

So Lou waited until September to announce his signings for...reasons?

Seems like Beauvillier and Sorokin being offer sheeted was a concern, now that they are both signed there's nobody left to get offer sheeted.

Let's be honest: the Islanders are not winning a cup with this core. I think signing Palmieri to this contract kills any chance they have of improving the team. I don't know what else they could have done with his cap space but I just don't like this contract.

Sure, but Palmieri is still willing to battle in the corners and fight in front of the net when things aren't going well. When Eberle isn't on a hot streak he's not doing anything positive and at best is neutral.

When Eberle first arrived in New York he seemed determine to shed the narrative that he was soft and unwilling to battle. Over the years his game has reverted a bit back to what Edmonton fans used to complain about. I don't think he's a terrible player but for a team that relies on structure, defense, and board play, Eberle doesn't fit as well. Time will tell though.
