Nylander's deal is good contrary to popular belief

Toronto fans have themselves convinced that it's a good deal, sure.

Everybody else is still wondering how you can hold out until the end of November, the team can be top 3 offensively without you, but your GM still caves and gives you a contract that inflated higher than Barkov or MacKinnon.

Ya, use contracts signed more than 2 years prior. Regardless, this is in no way a Leafs thread, have this conversation in the many other Leaf related threads on this topic.

How nice. Once you realize your error suddenly you lose interest in having the discussion publicly.

Read the title of this thread, why would i engage in this conversation in a NYI thread about Brock Nelson. Bump a Nylander, Dubas or Maple Leaf cap thread if you want to have this discussion publicly.

I dunno why you would, but you're still replying so...

Kadri and Reilly give him two more than Dubas...

Again, you're deflecting, what does Dubas have anything to do with this? How about Zaitsev, Marleau, Kovalchuk, Martin. Tell me about those four without mentioning anything relating to Dubas or the Maple Leafs, because you are obviously obsessed for whatever reason with derailing the thread any chance you get.

I dunno, how about you go back and read the original post that you replied to?

Meanwhile, Leafs fans are in a thread trying to argue that Dubas is a better negotiator than Lou.

Age wise he was a 2010 first rounder. Add 9 years to 18 and he’s 27. Deal ends at age 33. So didn’t commit insane term.l to someone who finishes the deal at 36 or something.

Also has played just under 500 games in the NHL. He came into the league at 22 and hasn't been "beat up". He has missed a grand total of 2 games in the last 5 years...

Brock Nelson has 10 points in 11 games.
Doesn't seem so awful to me.
I say this as an Islanders fan who doesn't hate this contract, but 11 games into a longterm contract isn't where you judge it and Brock has always shined in October. So, it remains to be seen.

That said, it is encouraging to see him continuing his strong play from last season, and I am optimistic.

The way he's played last year and this year under Trotz, including the playoffs, Brock is exactly who you want him to be. Problem for long term Isles fans is that they watched him develop and some seem to think that the young Brock is the mature Brock. He's not. Sure he'll never be a .75pg or ppg player, but he doesn't have to be. He's paid to be a 2C. And sure his face looks cold and disinterested at rest (haha) and that doesn't help if he has a mental lapse and does something boneheaded, but I'm convinced he's able to get past all of it. He's a great teammate and reliable producer, generally. I'm very happy with him at $6MM/, but agree that good coaching makes all the difference.

He's played his way into making this contract looking like a bargain. A very good 2 way Center under Trotz. Lou Lamoriello had a very good summer negotisting, got Nelson and Eberle for 6M and 5.5M per.

If he gets you 20-25 goal, 45-50 point seasons for the next 4 seasons, before tailing off, it's gonna be hard to be too mad.

True but we've seen shades of Brock be really good at times and then invisible for long stretches. If that translates to a couple of 25g-25a seasons personally won't be too happy.

If he gets more than 50% fo wins I'll be ecstatic

I wouldn’t say a bargain. He got UFA market value (which is different from UFA overpay).

Once of the best abilities is availability.

He is a bargain IMO when you look at what Kevin Hayes got, I think Brock is a better 2 way Center especially under Trotz. There is no doubt in my mind he took less to stay an Islander.
