If this team played that hard against LA in the finals we probably would have won the Cup. If only we had Quinn back then and AV for the tank. Rangers, always a bit off on the timing.
Sorry, but this is just stupid. That team played their asses off against LA...lost 3 games in OT (helped by horrible calls and Goalie interference).

To insinuate that team didn't play hard is just asinine.

I can literally already see the steam coming out of my ears next Tuesday when the Oilers, Sabres or Wings win the lottery (or all three) in spots the Rangers could’ve been in
That's not how random number generators work. The rand is different with different inputs (like NYR in 5th instead of 7th).

I feel like I'm going to be copy + pasting this 10 or 12 thousand times between now and Tuesday. Maybe after that too.

It would be pretty funny if Gorton is livid like us and trades Strome, Skjei, Nemestnikov and Buchnevich in the offseason out of spite.

Literally the most depressing outcome possible. I actually believe for a second we would finish 5th and win the lottery. Fate is a cruel mistress.

I don't care who wins the lottery or what spot they're in. That's a hypothetical fallacy. Spots don't win the lottery, teams do. It becomes a completely different draw if the Rangers are in a different spot.

What I fear is a repeat of 2017 where we find out Gorton was all-in on a franchise player and he goes 1 or 2 spots before us.

The chances of that just went way up.

Tampa series is a better argument.

It's a lot easier to think of life as just 'try harder' than try to navigate the millions of actual variables involved.

Might as well hope Podkolzin falls into their lap, and then they trade up again to get Newhook.

I agree with you, they have shown recently the ability to “pick the right guy” outside of the obvious top 2/3.

Maybe we will get very lucky (assuming we are losers come Tuesday) and the Dallas + TB conditions play out. That way Gorts has the ammo to pay the fat price to get his guy.

We just need something to feel good about. A season this depressing with all this stupid loser points needs a feel good ending...

The random number generator generates a list of numbers corresponding with elements in the sample.

You can't assume that if the 5th ranked team has their number selected that we would have had that number.

Poetically, it might sting a bit, but it has no statistical relevance.

Is the program that they use to pick publicly available? Because I can definitely think of ways to build it where that wouldn't be true.
