Somewhere nice
Connor only 4 goals behind Laine.
CONNOR was ahead by 10 in start of November. ;)

I always say with this much fire power , the rotation of who gets hot and score will take place. Hard and not common for a team for many players scoring at will.
Sometimes they will score all at the same time and Jets will clobber opponents.

But this is good as Jets got many guys who can cover for each one from this long grind of 82 games.
That what elite teams do.... :)

OK, You are now entering the

Laine's slump is the best thing that could have happened to the Jets

The 2nd line was by far the worst line tonight but to say the 4th line was good is being pretty generous. I'm not dumping on them but I didn't see how their play had an overly positive effect on the game. Copp did the heavy lifting and the other two were largely passengers.

  • In what looked like what was going to be a continuation of last night's disaster, Jets caught the Bruins sleeping for a minute in the third period and practically stole both points in this game. Full credit to the kid Kyle Connor for putting himself in those golden opportunities to beat Halak in prime spots on ice (AKA where they were practically avoiding last night).
  • Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler struggled in terms of Corsi against the Bruins top line (and practically one of the top lines in the NHL), but came out ahead in terms of quality according to Corsica's xG model. That being said, this didn't really show up until the third period. What can be characterized as some as "gutsy" or "character" is just as easily seen as "turning it on way too late in the game", because if it wasn't for Hellebuyck they certainly wouldn't have had the opportunity to do so. CSW is a top line in the NHL - they just seem to show flashes of it when they want to, though.
  • Laine-Little-Roslovic was practically benched for the entire game. While many are quick to point the finger of blame to Laine, all three definitely showed signs of struggling. Little and Laine clearly do better away from each other, but so do a lot of other Jets players - granted, the only other forward he's spent more than 150 minutes with is Kyle Connor. Again, the stapling of Scheifele to Wheeler and Lowry as a defensive matchup is restricting options here, and practically forcing Chevy's hand to find another centre come trade deadline. They all have the talent to do better, just not with each other it seems.
  • Perreault-Lowry-Tanev came out pretty equal, but in a weird way: they destroyed the Bruins 4th line against Kuraly-Acciari-Wagner, but struggled against the third line match of Heinen-Frederic-Backes. Perreault continued to show flashes of his gifts in the offensive zone by being the pest he is, but with Lowry and Tanev 'gooning it up' (I say this half-jokingly), he's not really a character fit on the line.
  • Appleton-Copp-Lemieux - visually, they looked just as good as they did yesterday. However, the numbers don't agree as much with a very high CA. That being said, this came with the increased ice time as Maurice sat the second line, so Copp's line was tasked with going up against Krejci's; where understandably most of the shots against came from. Copp is clearly a tier beyond his teammates, IMO.
  • Morrissey-Trouba hummed their way to a pretty solid numbers game as well, and this time without any very obvious gaffes! Well, maybe the Trouba pinch on the third goal can be seen as such, but Connor was a half-step behind from the correct F3 play to take away the cross-pass, which you can't do against that line. Regardless, they were tasked with high minutes and performed pretty admirably.
  • The second and third pairing... struggled. It was a mishmash of who was with who, but all 4 had a tough time even though they didn't see the top line as much. Kulikov is still doing well in comparison to his team in terms of limiting where the shots are coming from (faceoff dots or higher) however the problem is becoming that there are a lot of shots being generated against. If we are comparing to a certain other previous Jet defender who was known for being primarily defensive (hint: 39), there was a lot less shots against - period. My opinion is that Kulikov needs a better regular partner than Myers who can move the puck in breakouts like Myers but isn't getting caught below the opponent's goal-line like Myers.
  • Chiarot also had 6 shots on his own tonight, which y'know, is what he does even though it didn't improve his xG by much.
  • Hellebuyck stole the game tonight. The goals on the stat sheet don't show how much effort he would have needed to make those saves while the "big saves" he did make barely register a significant blip. That being said, visually he looked a lot more confident - and with Brossoit getting more trust, he'll be more rested heading into the playoff stretch and hopefully continuing to build on that confidence. This is what we want to see in the last half of the season from your #1.

I hate when one line gets called out especially after a win. It's a team sport and don't forget the other team has good lines too.

Ok, but the 2nd line was a Greek tragedy tonight. I literally felt sorry for Rosie and Laine .

Near as I could tell, Boston is a 1 line team.

No they weren't passengers. If that was the case he wouldn't have given them a regular shift for most of the 2nd half of the game.

Call it what you want. They had some good shifts. Copp carried them, the other two are interchangeable. Helle, Lowry's line, Connor and the D after Mo switched them up were the reason the Jets won. Those guys were good.

Who plays better with Laine? It isn't Scheifele. It isn't Roslovic. Lowry??

I did not take that out of this game

Helle outgoalied Halak, they have managed to squeak out win and points out of many games where the process was awful. The process shows no signs of improving however as this looked like more of the same.

Playing like a wildcard team that has found its way to the top somehow.

Top line was better than last game and the 3rd line played well. Those are the only positives for me.

Feels like 2 very empty points, but I guess 2 points nonetheless.
I'm guessing Boston doesn't feel they were beat by a wildcard level team. I don't know man, you're looking for all the pieces to fall into place at the exact same time far too often. I'm not saying that game was a work of art and doesn't have lots to criticise, but it was a pretty even game after that first period. Considering who they are missing and starting b2b on the road after a long layoff, it was a pretty gutsy effort.

Boston's process didn't impress me much beyond the 1st period. Not at all if you take out their top line.

Good back end though. Carlo and McAvoy are nice players.

So, who would have predicted that Brendan Lemieux would be getting more regulation ice time than Patrik Laine, even in a single game, or outscoring him in any 25 game sample size?
Probably the same people who predicted that, 50 games in, Brossoit would be sporting a better save % than Helle, albeit as a backup.
The good news in that, perhaps for the first time this season, one can confidently say that Helle was instrumental in stealing a win for us. Tonight, he looked like the Helle of old.

Waylayed by a bunch of locals at the pub so only caught the 3rd but WHAT A THIRD!

Bucky was a f***** rock from what I did see. KC dancing it up again is a good sign for our club.

Mojo is so sweet in OT and will be good on PP once he learns to get his shots/passes through, which he will by playoffs.

Myers and Kuli looooked gooood.....

also should mention I liked Pepe's game

If I recall, Ehlers and Laine didn't do much in the play-offs last year and hopefully that was a one-off. Get Ehlers and Buff back, get some scoring from Laine and half decent goaltending and we have the makings of a really good contending team.
Well about Laine is totally wrong.
85, 81 and 27 didnt do much that is a fact.

I like Rosie, I think he'll be great. He was lost in space tonight.

Agree. Roslo had one of his worst games tonight but he’s going to be a good one. It hasn’t helped his game playing with Laine and Little. In fact, like others, it’s hurt it.

I sure hope we don’t trade away cheap highly talented assets like him for a short term rental.
