OT: November 2015 Edition Mod warning in post 1

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The Force Awakens was a bit disappointing. My thoughts while I can remember most of it -

I'm spoiling the entire film.

[spoil]I heard from numerous sites that VII brought back the magic ingredients that made IV-VI so great. That it was an extension of the original trilogy. About halfway through VII I realized it was almost identical to the original three films. It all seemed like different snippets pieced together with newer characters. Rey reminds me of Luke a lot. The ultimate story is her honing the Force like Luke. I love Daisy Ridley by the way. She did a phenomenal job and is a great actress.

Ren and Snoke are Vader and Palpatine. Kylo is a badass though and I love his helmet and slender appearance in certain parts of the film (made him more of an agile villain where I always felt Vader was a bit cumbersome). Snoke displays tremendous power and exudes great fear. I liked how they didn't really expand on his character. Episodes VIII and IX should really flush things out.

Captain Phasma's armor is badass. I was extremely excited to see how her plot line played out, but she felt like a big after thought. She probably had 10 minutes of screen time total. I wish she would have fought after being held hostage, but that probably would have been the death of her. Hopefully she plays a bigger role in the next episode. Did I mention her armor is ****ing badass? Because it's ****ing badass.

I understand both parties have evolved through different phases (mainly defeat), but it feels like the New Order is the Empire with new helmets.

The Starkiller Base and ultimately the destruction of it felt identical to the Death Star.

Solo's death felt identical to Obi-Wan's death. It was a great scene though from an atmosphere standpoint.

Now I understand that all of these are an evolution of past events, and would be very common, but it all felt too similar and too readily mirroring previous events.

The transitions between major scenes were also identical to the original series.

Three of the funniest scenes I remember -

The first is when Rey and Finn are escaping and she calls the Millennium Falcon a pile of garbage. The second is when Rey said, "You're the one that did the Kessel run in 14 parsecs???" and Han gets irritated. The final is when they're trying to break into the Starkiller Base and Chewie is complaining about the cold.

I thought BB-8 was a fantastic replacement to R2-D2 (the main character droid role). The separate head allowed him to show a tremendous amount of emotion along with his beeps and boops.[/spoil]

Overall I enjoyed it very much, but it did let me down from a fresh episode standpoint.

I think they needed in part to help wash away the stink of the prequels. They did miss on a few opportunities , but I think they're heading in a good direction.The new characters have a strong hold on the future episodes, especially Rey and Kylo Ren.

I'm gonna go see it again in 70MM.

Anyone else having Chrome constantly crash with this new update? I'm only running 23 tabs right now.

only on one computer... But chrome has been crashing like a mother ****er on me.
Not sure if its this computer or what, but ever since version whatever.whatever.86 or something like that.
Better lately though tbh.
 
yeah that's what I got too and hasn't crashed in a bit... Though the crashes didn't stop with an update to chrome they stopped with a system update... Well I think they stopped, perhaps just haven't happened again in a while...
 
Also, at home over Christmas, and found out parents had never seen breaking bad.
Started watching it again from beginning Christmas morning, lol.
They only made it to episode 3, but I kept watching when I went home.

Where Walt gets 1 hr to drop off 36 lbs of meth at a truck stop. God damn. So much meth.

Also: Season 2, better call saul. Do it. (February? really? at least Sunny starts on the 6th or whatever it is)
