The scary thing is that we don’t really have much coming up in great young players either. a few, but certainly not like our depth a few years ago. Not even close.

Most worrying for me is that the reviews for all our D currently with the Moose have been lukewarm at best and Heinola is having a tough time in Liiga with being scratched and his icetime being reduced. Among our D prospects Samberg is the only one whom I feel hopeful about for next season in a role with the Jets.

This would be the sound thing to do in the circumstance - but if Chevy were truly of this mindset, wouldn`t the season then much better be used to see what we`ve got within the organization by giving more of our young guys a real sustained opportunity on the big club? Why, pray tell, did he give so much emphasis to securing low/no cost plugs (Letestu/ Bourque/ Bitteto/Sbisa) and then grant them spots on the team over players already within the org with potential but perhaps at differing stages of development?

You may disagree which is fine, I don't try to convince anyone of anything......I state my opinions and others state theirs. IMO you can't throw kids out there who aren't ready, that's hurting their development not helping it. So of course he had to get warm bodies b/c the kids aren't ready yet. Better to over develop a prospect then rush them. Over develop them this year and grab a good 1 st Rd pick. Start selling off some of these non core guys for whatever you can get. Then start looking at some hockey trades to fill holes, IMO only one player is untouchable b/c he can't be replaced talent & contract wise......Mark S. Everyone else is open game for a hockey trade, Laine, KC, Ehlers, Wheeler, Buff, Little, etc......if you can find a hockey trade that improves the team then do it......otherwise start planning for FA market this summer, the draft and who the best coaching staff we can find.

The good news is that the key prospects are in an area of weakness. But Chevy is going to have to make some aggressive moves this summer to fill some holes.

Tarasenko is injured for the Blues has has been for a couple of months but the Blues are not putting his $7.5 million to use on another player. They can't just keep Buff on LTIR, if he is cleared to play, he has to be activated, Buff's agent, the NHLPA and the league would have something to say to the Jets if they weren't activating him for cap reasons. Season is long and Buff's injury was not a season ending one by any means, it is very likely he is cleared to play before April and even if there is a small chance that he would be cleared to play then no responsible GM is going to put their team in a position where they need to shed 7 million+ in capspace almost overnight in a situation where the rest of the league would basically have them by the balls.

No capologist am I, but isn’t that 7,5 million prorated over the course of the season? So if Buff has been LTIRd for 50 games, then even if the situation is resolved with him being returned to the roster when healthy, he is paid for the season but only uses up the cap that covers his non-LTIR period?

Good argument. But I swear that Toronto kept Hyman on LTIR until relief opened up with another injury. Clarkson and Horton give them 10.5 M in relief but they’re using about 13 M currently.

I actually thought the team played pretty well. Not to throw Hellebuyck under the bus but his save percentage in the first period lately has been abysmal. 2-0 on 4 shots tonight. He got scored on in the Chicago game because he let a guy walk through his crease without a pokecheck and score and that happened again tonight, almost twice.

Obviously, I'm not blaming him solely but he's been part of the problem since he was lights out in November

Let's hope Chevy does something tomorrow (tonight) besides nothing.

Seriously, I'm not saying this team doesn't need a new coach but it sure needs a better back end. Sbisa is horrible and can't clear the zone if his life depended on it and Potato is a #8 D man at best.
Make a freaking trade already. The playoffs and the Jets are starting to distance themselves.
This p$ss#s me off to no end...do your freaking job.
Trading when you're desperate is never a good idea.

We have to wait until the Buff situation resolves itself. Unfortunately, were going to have to accept that this season is lost, likely.

Yes, the defence is awful, Hellebuyck looks very overworked and tired.

If they lost and look liked they were putting any effort into it at all, that would be one thing. They look like they've lost the game before it starts. No effort.

The lack of depth in defensive prospects does suck but next year a couple of prospects are not going to come in and save us anyway if the roster stays the same. If you look into the way our team is constructed the same exact team is most likely unless.

Buff gets traded and we use his cap to figure a way to get some defenseman that know how to play defense on this team. Morrisey pionk will get the points.

Not necessarily fair to single anyone out in that mess but Sbisa is lol bad. Bitetto was also particularly clueless tonight. Kyle Connor is a world class goal scorer inside one blue line and a Timbits player inside the other.

I didn’t get to watch much of the game...

Out in Alberta attending to business...

Read most of the posts in the game and post game threads...

It’s good to see posters I haven’t seen in quite a while post again...

All with one mind...

As a good friend said to me many years ago...

“The World is round John... the World is round”

That was his reply to my asking when I would get his business...

I kept moving my feet... kept calling... stayed positive...

And within a year or so... I had his business...

Willy died last year... we did business... we became good friends...

I’ll never forget his words...

So fellow HFJets posters I say to you...

“The World is round... the World is round...”

Couldn't watch past the 1st period but wow, 4 shots in the last 35 minutes, no clips in the extended highlights, three PP attempts. Sounds unacceptable.

That Maurice post game interview kind of sums up what I've thought of him. When a team is developing and progressing, he's good with the optimistic calmness, but when it's time to kick some butts and light some fires to keep the team up there, he's got nothing.

Our D and bottom 6 are weak, but we still have a heavy top 6 and I don't think Maurice is getting the best out of them

Mrazek reminding us that you can win like a ****ing loser.

Nice to see a chump ref crushed immediately after a joke call.

Bunch of jerks must be really happy their coach isn't beating the snot out of them anymore, but I personally cannot wait for them to shit the bed and start turning on each other. I'll have more fun watching that than the storm surge is enjoyed by both their fans combined.

Hellebuyck looks very overworked and tired.

Doesn't really matter how Hellebuyck looks when he's spotting the other team three goals on the first 10 shots every game.

I think Maurice knows the end is near , he should have been pissed right off at our 3rd period but i don't think he wants to leave the team on that kind of note . I like Maurice , think he's a smart hockey coach but this team needs new voices behind the bench and once again i looked exactly like Clint watching us play last night .

I keep saying this since June, no coach in the world was making the Jets a cup contender this year......a cap & D restructuring year.....at best the Jets could of been was a playoff contender with a 1st Rd exit IMO. Chevy I think intentionally used this year as restructuring year and to restock the prospects including a nice 1st Rd pick.....I think he was planning on likely replacing PMO this summer that's why PMO has no contract unlike last time......but with the recent dive in results Chevy might have no choice to let PMO go mid season even if it's just to evaluate a guy like Pascal Vincent for the remainder of the year and then decide during the offseason who the new coach will be.

The time is to rid ourselves of Maurice is now more more than ever. There is an excellent option in Gallante that is available. We CANNOT miss this opportunity.

Not to mention it’s hard to look big and boring as a goalie when guys are getting free looks in tight and back door so much. Helly made a lot of good saves but how much can you ask a goalie for when you have no defensive structure anymore?
