It would suck for me because I like a team in NB, but another team in the east would be good for the division and Hamilton. Maybe Cornwall can get another crack at a franchise and be the next location for the battalion
Cornwall needs a team and the OHL needs Cornwall. Unfortunately, that requires a new rink. As far as I am aware, the existing rink cannot be modified in a way that makes sense for the new OHL model.
Cornwall is in a Much better financial situation than they were 10-15 years ago but with Covid and a lot of funding issues resulting from covid, I doubt any Ontario communities would invest in that type of infrastructure.
That means it would likely need to be heavily funded privately. Maybe some sort of multi-pad complex anchored by a major local sponsor but I am not sure Cornwall has that type of corporate body willing and able to contribute.
I think this is a common thread for most viable OHL communities. Cornwall is big enough to support a team with 45,000 population but it is somewhat isolated to a degree. It would require a very agressive business plan to get anything done. Again, not dissimilar to other Ontario towns.
