Agreed. I am just not sure they will have enough firepower but everyone will be a year older and some of these guys will need to step up and be offensive drivers. It'll be interesting.. Also, is NB done making deals? I still think there's another couple of moves needed to help push this team over the top. One more D top four caliber, I'd like to see a legit top two centreman added and push Arnsby to the third line as the leagues best third line centreman and a capable backup to Dom D in nets. Thoughts??

I don’t think Ottawa are playing over their heads. I think they’ve managed to take advantage of some situations that they wouldn’t normally be able to as consistently. I put North Bay, Ottawa and Peterborough int he same boat right now regardless of the standings. Maybe the Petes are slightly behind and need that additional Centre or D-Man to fill a gap but once they do they are all int he same boat.

The question is what is Ottawa willing to do to tip the boat over?

Ottawa has done it with too many younger players that shouldn't be able to keep pace in the 2nd half and playoffs. Pinelli will. He’s too strong not to. Gardiner and Foster? not likely. Foster may because he is a winger and if he is feasting off two veteran line-mates? Possibly.

Can they rely on Marrelli and Ewles as the #7/8 coming in to replace for injury in the playoffs? Probably not. Maybe if it is early int he playoffs or only a game here or there but if one of theor top 6 go down, are they going to be able to step in and play 16 minutes?

That is the difference right now between Ottawa and teams like North Bay and Peterborough. If Ottawa goes out and acquires 2-3 veteran players that make an impact and it shoves players like Gardiner and Foster down to 4th line roles and the weaker current 4th liners off the starting roster then it is a completely different ballgame and discussion. A Barlas-Gardiner-Foster 4th line that scores currently at a decent clip as the 3rd line could be a completely different look, especially if their 3rd line is Morrison-Harrison-Stonehouse. Not saying they will do it. Just saying they have the assets to do it and can take advantage if they are so inclined.

Assuming both D and F are back for playoffs, what does NB truly need to make a deep run??

Not much, if anything.
Forwards are pretty tough to upgrade with Podoliouhk, Romani and our 2022 first rounder on the fourth line.

D would be very solid with

Nelson - Hislop
Mathurin - Christopolous
Winslow - Lukin

Upgrade of a 7th D and maybe a backup might be all they do or can do. Never know with Adam Dennis though, he pulls great, somewhat unexpected deals off it seems.

Edit: fixed my butcher job on Podoliouhk

2nd in the league. Teddy bear toss will be fun on Thursday. Don’t forget McDonald will be back very soon. That’s a solid top 9. D has been playing great lately. Mathurin if back healthy is one of the most underrated D in the league. I’m happy with Winslow but if his injury is longer then excepted they will ad a strong OA D. See you all at the trade deadline and playoffs.

Trade winds blowing
Brzustowski for 2 4ths… must be solid defensively because the numbers don’t show much. This may be a sign of something else though? One of our injured not returning? A young defender going out in a different trade?

All indications point to Mathurin not returning any time soon....perhaps next season.

Obviously Winslow’s return is not imminent; and, Turley at 16 is just not ready to play regular 3rd pairing minutes for a contending team.

Just to note that this is now the last two times trades have been made that I've somewhat "called it" the day before. Just saying :thumbu:

Brzustowski got knocked out against the 67’s & has not played since
Tyler Boucher hit him against the boards and he ended up getting knocked out and had a seizure on the ice. Tyler Boucher had a 10 game suspension for the hit.

Looks like new man is in, first game in 5 weeks or so. 7D and 11F, #6 J Therrien appears to be the casualty.

Entertaining games vs. SSM. Team looked flat early. 2 for slashing on OVS #16???? Worst call I've ever seen. Posts and crossbars were ringing loud. One of Nelson's poorest games .... One of Ertel's best game.

Ivanov was the difference.
He and goal posts were part of the difference. So was puck control by the battalion BUG. He stopped the puck well enough, but the D had to clear the puck from the goal area with their back turned to 85% of the playing surface too many times to count. That never leads to clean zone exits.

Looks like a solid road win vs. quality opponent, but I am kicking myself for: a) forgetting to watch; b) forgetting to record. So I am just cruising through the game stats and highlights and note the following: rookie E-Procision#21 has 6 total min. in penalties in his first season, racked up all of them last night. Cap’n Arny had full leadership skills on display early 3rd period with the always popular check to the head major/game misconduct combo. Did anyone happen to see it? I wonder if the annual suspension will ensue. Does anyone know who decides the player to serve a penalty? I noticed Matvey Petrov served the too many minor in the 1st and more importantly Arnsby’s major. Maybe he is never a penalty killer? D-group contributed 5 points as most members continue to “activate” (to use the newly popular description). Nelly, of course, go wherever you want, whenever you want, someone like Lukin I’m not so sure about, but he seems to be getting results.

Anyone know what this "New Look" is going to be this Thursday vs the trout ? Can't see them getting rid of the green. Maybe black helmets to offset the green ?
