The Norris hasn't been about defending for ages now. Otherwise Karlsson, Burns, Subban or Hedman wouldn't have won the award.Defensemen playing defense has become very underrated

What's wrong with saying that Rielly is arguably the front runner for the Norris at this point in the season?
They seem pretty real when I look up at them and bask in our team’s historical glory.
Clancy actually won more Cups for my team than the Leafs so I have to give you credit for bringing him up.
That’s definitely very objective of you. Kudos!
Then Rielly should get a lot of votes.Defending hasn’t been about hits and blocked shots for ages now.
Keeping the puck as far as possible from your own net has value.
You're the one positing that the Leafs Media bias somehow has them in the trophy running when they shouldn't be. You should be the one qualifying your claim with evidence.
Because he had ovechkin Backstrom and semin in their prime.Ah i remember when mike green and his 31 goal 42 assist 73 point season didnt win him the norris. Who knows what voters look for
Can we get back to the discussion about the Norris? And Rielly being the frontrunner, due to the best performance of any Dman in the NHL since Lidstrom?
You’re the one who brought up Ottawa Senators superstar King Clancy.
Who's #1 over Clancy? Kelly played forward with the Leafs and I'm coming up blank - unless I'm forgetting someone on the Senators.you mean toronto maple leafs star. Second best ontario team dman in history.
Now, on to Rielly, think he'll get 2 points tonight? 3 points? With no goals against?
sounds about right.

Tim horton is considered by many to be among the top 30 or 40 players in NHL history.Who's #1 over Clancy? Kelly played forward with the Leafs and I'm coming up blank - unless I'm forgetting someone on the Senators.
Can't even play defense?!?!?!?!?!LOL, he played more seasons for the Senators, he won more Cups for the Senators.
Surely you have enough team history without trying to abscond with ours.
I wholeheartedly agree that he’s second to EK as second best Ontario defenceman in history.
Finally some common ground.
A more accurate username would be KarlssonAgendaBoy.Soooo subtle as per usual.
LOL.
It would be an odd delineation if it wasn’t for your rabid frothing at the mouth abject hatred post history.
I'd put Clancy over Horton pretty comfortably.Tim horton is considered by many to be among the top 30 or 40 players in NHL history.
I mean, all I see are old videos, but "NHL history" is a long long time.
Cute. Did you forget this not-so-subtle jab of yours from this thread? No, he's not a stud defensively. But he's capable of being used in a purely defensive role, and the goalies behind him don't magically struggle like they do with other dmen. He's decent. Not exceptional, but decent.
Why are you making this a conversation of Karlsson. It's a discussion of this year's Norris, please leave Erik Karlsson out of it.
I'd put Clancy over Horton pretty comfortably.
Edit: And I'm not going to entertain EK over Clancy at all.

"Maybe the best performance by a Leaf dman, or any dman playing for an Ontario team, ever."
"Leafs Have An AHL D. Hainsey is on the Top Pairing!"
"Reilly Should Not Be #1 on a list for the Norris".
With this logic, Vezina candidates who have high SV%, wins, low GA should be knocked down a peg or two for playing on a strong team with good defense? It's based on his offensive production which is undoubtedly inflated by that Toronto offense. He can be a finalist but he has no business winning.
It's borderline insane to even include him in the conversation with Clancy and Horton, or even Salming, at all.
Lol the Norris is hilarious. “Gaudy offensive numbers” when deciding who the top DEFENSE player in the nhl is.
Salming. Forever known as "the King". Was always near the top of the league scoring, AND could beat the piss out of you. Take a skate to the face? No problem, I'll play.LOL, Salming.
The only thing he and EK have in common is that they are Swedish.
Salming is the result of a team that has so little talent for so long that he stands out.
One First Team all star selection over his entire career. Even Mike Green has two.
