In case you missed it, yesterday, two different players in two different games let go of the football before crossing the end zone plane, turning an easy TD into a touchback.

It didn’t cost the Bengals, as they were up big in their game and won big. It definitely cost the Colts in their game.

I’m honestly not sure how you don’t see that one time and decide your whole thing as a football player is to hand the ball to the ref when you score.

I would live in such perpetual fear of that ever happening that handing the ball to the ref would become my whole brand.

That or when you're on a play where you literally ONLY have to not give up the ball to win, and then you only hold it with one arm allowing it to be stripped free

There really is no rhyme or reason behind it either. Does dropping the ball the second you enter the end zone make you look cooler? Is it a mental game? “How close can I drop the ball to the plane and have it count.” Is it arrogance or showboating? Because spiking the ball in the end zone is a classic and doesn’t risk losing the TD entirely.

Unfortunately the average NFL player is pretty damn stupid and got pushed through school due to their athletic ability not their intelligence.

I had a few college classes with Chris Johnson (Titans RB, won Rookie of the year). He was literally illiterate, yet passed the same classes I took
Hence UNCs fake class scandal (that of course got swept under the rug...because UNC). Same goes with basketball. I had an Econ 101 class at NC State with one of our basketball players (can't remember who offhand), he literally only showed up the first day (had earbuds in the whole time) and somehow "passed" the class

Was he amphibious? If so it was probably Charles Shackleford. :D

You say "of course it got swept under the rug...because UNC" and then go on to give a similar example at NC State, and BLB gave one from ECU. They all do it.

Of course they all do it, that's where they get the most money from exploiting athletics...they couldn't give 2 shits about education as long as they're making money (which is why so many degrees are "worthless" these days). That said, at least those schools had some semblance of enrolling them in actual classes, UNC was flat-out found guilty of like 2 decades worth of "paper classes". The result is ultimately the same, but the NCAA has a tendency to "sweep it under the rug" for their favorite schools like the NHL does with it's O6 and big market franchises.

And if NC State or ECU had gone to the lengths that UNC did in setting up those fake classes they'd have been crushed by the NCAA.

Meh, "Some semblance" is a bit of a stretch. You said yourself the guy showed up 1 day wearing earbuds and that was it. BLB said the player was illiterate and passed classes. I guess "enrolling" them in actual classes is correct, but they didn't make them actually do anything in those actual classes so it's not a very meaningful distinction to be "enrolled" in an actual and never attend vs. enrolled in a fake class and never attend.

In all those cases they are giving an athlete a free pass. I don't see enough of a difference to distinguish between them personally, and I'm not a UNC fan.

I think what's more interesting is how that goes for the professors

Do they have any that care about what is happening? Is there an unspoken rule? Do they have a guy who gets perks...maybe tenure in exchange for passing a lot of these athletes?

Ah to be a fly on the wall.
