IMO this is why he's so frustrating. If the effort was ever there on a Lehky sort of level, Rants might be a consistent 60g 135p player. When he gives a F, there are probably less than 5 players more impactful than him. But when he doesn't, he can bleed chances. Kucherov is the same way, just in a different style.

Also he can have 3 of those shifts in a game and get 3 points... while his other 20+ shifts were utter garbage.
Feel like that's the MO of most big, skilled forwards. Malkin (prime and now) and Draisaitl are the exact same way.

The guy everyone seems to want to replace Mittlestadt with - Crosby - isn't exactly lighting it up lately either. Zero goals in his last 9 games, 2 goals in his last 18.

Players have slumps sometimes, guys.

I do , I can't stand the player and you can spin it anyway you want . The dude is weak, slow and -17. Now the Avs still need a 2C.

No.other forward is even close to.-17. If they were we could call it a bad team thing but they aren't. He's the only one
Well he did play with absolute garbage players most of the season when everyone was injured, or did you conviniently forget that...

Tbf @S E P H has finally enlightened us in how much of a locker room cancer Crosby is. So was Crosby ever that good in the first place??

Love to see a good @henchman21 slapdown of the facts. Mitts isn't the problem. He isn't the solution either right now... But he sure could help by playing the way he did to start the year.
He looks like he's lost all his confidence. Even on that 2on1 yesterday, he looked like he was hoping the defense would notice him so they would cheat to him as an option, but he didn't look like he actually wanted to be a shooting option. He is showing some positive signs, starting to win some board battles again, making some good set ups. He needs to start shooting again, that opened up a lot of room for him a the start of the season.

Here's a crazy sta(d)t: Mittelstadt has six shots in his last 13 games. Six.

A couple of those were multi-shot games, too. All told he's gone shotless in 9/13 games. He's got more assists in his past six games (4) than shots on goal (3).

I'm not off the Mittens bandwagon yet. There have been offensive signs of life recently. But the splits are jarring. His last goal was 15 games ago, and since then he's been outscored by Calvin de Haan. :help:

In the past 6 games he has 9 attempts at net with 4 of them being scoring chances and 1 being high danger. That's still not enough out of his role, but purely looking at shots misses some context.

IMO Mitts was actually better last night than a number of previous games. He'll catch hell because he didn't hit anybody, get a shot or a point, but his work on the ice was strong. When he got an assist against Nashville... I think the opposite, he was pretty poor in that game. One of his worst games of the season quite honestly. Utah wasn't as good as last night, but also one of his better games of late.

I wish ESPN+ kept a vault of games. Or there was a way to download the games before they disappear. I'd love to go back and watch some of those games from last season after Mitts came over.

My mental recollection is that he was really good defensively while driving play and producing with more of our grindy type of wingers. And he picked up doing the exact same at the beginning of this season. And he did appear to tapper off just as reenforcements started to arrive. The thing is, I don't think he's really playing that different so much as he's playing stupid all of sudden. But... with rumors of the flu going around I'm not sure what to make of it. Gassed from the flu will certainly lead to boneheaded decisions but I tend to believe there is a bit more going on here.

It's not what I would call a serious concern at this point, but it is something that Bednar or more likely Petersen needs to be involved in helping him out with.

The 9 shot attempts are the fourth fewest amongst Colorado players (min: 2GP).

Only Ivan, Smith, and Wagner had fewer; de Haan and Middleton had more. The additional context only hurts, IMO.

We're digging pretty deep if we're looking at Mittelstadt's shot attempts. Prior to this goalless streak, he was averaging more than 2 shots per game.

Like I said, the splits are ugly:

Leads me to believe he’s either playing with an injury or he’s in a mental funk. There aren’t too many other reasons for that significant a change

Miller and MacK on the same team would be hilarious, hyper competitive, grumpy as an old goat. Would be coming full circle since I really wanted them to get him when Tampa made him available
Rantanen would be like, I'll send you both to Tuonela if you don't feed me the Perkele-damned puck in the right circle.
