Sounds like he really got homesick during the lockout. That team doesn't look like they are going to be very good. Not giving up that draft pick when they had #29 could really come back to bite them.

I've always hated the Devils. Hope they find themselves in the cellar for years. Even with Kovy they weren't going to do much

Another Russian takes off for the KHL.....

Meh. Is it really bad for them to want to go home?

It would by hypocritical of me to say "yes" considering that's what Parise did....just pointing out that there seems to be a trend developing with Russians wanting to go to the KHL....

Now that they have a viable option for a league, hard not to see why. I don't like when they dishonor contracts, but the ones that bolt not under contract, oh well.

That is absolutely devastating to the organization.

It's going to be a while before they fully recover from this... Lou needs to pull another 35+ goal scoring rabbit out of his hat...

Except the one big difference: Parise was a Free Agent. Kovy had a cap circumvented contract that the league was trying to get rid of that had him getting PAID for the next like 5-6 years along with like 4 or 5 years at a more "marginal" hit.

So, am I right that they don't have their 1st round pick next season as part of the penalty of signing Kovy to that deal? If so, that pick is shaping to be a very good pick that they DESPERATELY NEED now more than ever.

I believe you are correct. They will not have it. Looks like they just lost out on McDavid.

It's kind of sad how fast Jersey is spiraling down the drain. Two years ago in the SCF... Now they'll be challenging for a lottery pick.

Can't believe they could've given up the #29 pick in 2012 and will now have to forfeit an even higher pick next year, possibly lottery again. Hindsight, I guess, but doesn't seem like the brightest idea.

Wanting to go home is one thing, but he's breaching his contract. He's going to play in St. Petersburg and get paid more (as the taxes are lower) than he would in the NHL. Maybe in a few years he'll decide America was a fun place after all and come back.

Would have been nice if Kovy let them know BEFORE FREE AGENCY.

What a completely *********. I'm sorry, but come on.

Lou said they were having conversations about this for a year. Plus they just held the draft in NJ. I'd almost guarantee they knew about this prior to the draft, at the very least, but didn't want to drop that bombshell and create the distraction then.

Evidently, Kovy told the Devils know that he might do this right after the lockout ended....so Lou can't claim he didn't have a heads-up.

You almost have to expect them to go after guys like Jagr and/or Grabovski now.

That just blows.
