nah, pretty sure that @Jesus comma Brodin follows one of those effete southern clubs, or maybe a team from another league altogether. I'm the Newcastle guy. Been following them for years, when they were REALLY shit. Basically used to give the other team the ball at the beginning of the game, turtle, and hope for a draw. They are an easy follow, now, because they are good, well run, likeable(unless you are a Sunderland fan), have a crazy fan base, tough, have an iconic uniform, and lots of good young talent that bodes well for the future.

They aren't the team Man City is, but they are probably the best team in the world right now when all their players are healthy. Halaand is best striker, De Bruyne the best midfielder, and his replacement, Rodri, is almost as good.

Liverpool is also really, really, good, and have been the only team to rival MCI in recent years. I do think that the bloom is somewhat off the rose there, though. There have been very strong rumours that Salah will leave after this season to play in the Saudi league, Van Dijk is showing mild signs of age, and overall, the team seems to be getting fed up, and breaking down under Klopp's pressing style. I used to like Klopp, but when under pressure, he's started acting like an ass at times.... not Mourinho level ass, but still, dampens the appeal, for me.

Most newcomers to the EPL pick one of the two Manchester teams, one of the top London teams( Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham), or Liverpool to follow. Those picking Crystal Palace, Burnley, Southampton, or the like only do so because of some personal connection to the team, or out of a desire to not run with the pack. In years past it was risky, as those teams often get relegated, which would mean it was near impossible to watch them on TV, but now most Championship games are streamed.

I follow NUFC because I couldn't see following the crowd(back then EVERYONE followed Man U), loved the B & W stripes, relate to the blue collar ethos, and some of my family comes from Northumberland, in the the far NE of England above Newcastle. I used to say that I was doomed to follow them. What's happening now is like a dream...
Good write up. Yeah I knew going in that I didn’t wanna pick a Manchester team because if the very reasons you said. I enjoy watching them because of how well they’re run and how prestigious the clubs are (Man City being more recent) but no way I wanted them to be one of my teams that I root for. Halaand is fun to watch but rubs be the wrong way personality wise for some reason he seems extremely arrogant. Kinda ironic to say because I like Grealish for some reason and he seems pretty arrogant as well. I’ve never seen someone get mugged on the pitch as much as he does though lol

NUFC just doesn’t strike me as a team a lot of outsiders or Americans choose as their team for some reason (it’d be like rooting for the Packers as an outsider) and I wanted to go against the grain a bit in choosing a team and felt like NUFC fit that bill. Someone once described Geordies as people from Jersey Shore and that kinda made me laugh a bit but dont know how close that description is but the way they love going to games without a shirt on and no matter the weather it seems kinda spot on.

NEwcastle has some nice looking kits like their blue ones and their green ones i just cant get past the black and white stripes and how they remind me of footlocker employees or refs in the NFL. My own weird shtick though.

- Grealish is mocked, and despised by Geordie's for making disparaging comments about Almiron and his ineffectiveness in the premier league a couple of years ago. Almiron then ripped off a series of really good games once Howe came in as manager, far outstripping anything Grealish has done.

- Brian Johnson (AC/DC lead singer) is the personification of a Newcastle fan. Amped up, rough around the edges, tough. Sting is also a NUFC fan... an acquaintance of mine is a distinguished solicitor in Hong Kong, but if you dig down a bit you'll find that he is an expert martial artist, and has been a Toon fan since his rough childhood days.

- Can't help you with the kit. The B & W stripes are their jerseys, ultimately. I prefer to think that they had that setup first, and North American refs just copied them. I'm probably not wrong, as the club goes back to the 19th century.

- you could always slum it, and become a Sunderland fan?

Yeah admittedly not up to snuff on NC or their backline. So apologies there. My first kit was a Sean Wright-Phillips 03’ City kit so I’ve always been a follower but not what I’d call a fan.

My fanship doesn’t really hold a place in the EPL, but I am a daily soccer gambler so I reach a lot of random leagues and follow them pretty close but nothing I am a fan of persay. If they’re winning me $$ consistently I am a fan though. This season has been raking in Norway and City does tend to make me some cash as well with their TTs on the road being lower.

If I had to choose an EPL team, it would be Spurs because I’ve been to so many games at the Old White Hart Lane and was lucky enough to go last year to the new stadium for NFL and EPL. Plus my wife lived a few miles from WHL when we met so I also have that soft spot. I am intrigued by Newcastle and love their front, hoping they do well in the UCL given their group. My next international match is in Milan so hoping I can line that trip up with a UCL midweek match as well. Sorting out the dates now.

Have you been to any international matches? That’s why I love the game so much. I’ve seen matches in about 11 countries and want to keep going. It’s the greatest sports environment there is.

No, never have been to Europe, though there are plans afoot for me and my son to make a pilgrimage to St. James Park either this season, or next. I've heard from my brother that the atmosphere at the stadiums are amazing.
Good weekend for Newcastle
Ehh... they were expected to win against Burnley. The Wednesday game against PSG will be the one to watch. They are underdogs in that one.

That was directed at a couple teams losing who were ahead of us or tied with in points like BHA, MU and MC.

Non-hockey question for the board.
I see the Jays are facing the Twins. I dont know much about the Twins. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Jays have a great 1-2 combo of Bassitt and Gausman
