The article you quoted has it.

"If the replay official can't confirm it was a catch on that long of a completed pass, we should stop play to ensure it is a catch."

"On that long of a play" seems rather subjective... I don't recall it being "that long of a play" myself. It was so quick between plays even the broadcast couldn't queue up an angle that put it in question.

I still say this is much ado about nothing.

Be careful what you wish for when it comes to more review. The last fan crusade for reviews was pass interference. That was an unmitigated disaster that the NFL thankfully scrapped.

That's how it's handled on scoring plays and turnovers, this was neither. The league has different rules for such situations for good reason IMO.
That's not true, because for scoring plays and turnovers, there's no next play that comes up quick. And the final 2 minutes is different than the rest of the game because of coaches challenges vs. booth reviews.

If it's challengeable, then it's up to the opposing team to throw the flag before the next snap. The refs don't have to, and shouldn't, hold up play for that. In the final 2 minutes, where the coaches have no say, there are different rules, as you say.

The length of the play means nothing. It's in OT. There's less than two minutes left. It needs to be stopped. The NFL admitted that and screwed up.

He literally said "on that long of a play, they should have stopped" doesn't sound like it meant nothing.

My point is, the refs are not standing over the ball to clear every play like that. They do on turnovers and scores though.

You actually think there's a rule in the rulebook saying the length of the play matters for replays?

No i don't, but that's what he said in the tweeted q&a
It also doesn't say confirm each catch before the next snap, and to stop play if you don't have time to z otherwise as the Dr suggested, the refs would wait for that confirmation in the first place.

In the final 2 minutes, they should be.

Nobody is saying to do it in the middle of the 1st quarter.
I'd rather not. I prefer the fast paced finishes the 2 minute drill provides as is... hell... the advantage the offense would get is crazy to have that happen. Free clock stop while the ref stands over the ball waiting for confirmation, while the team calmy takes those free 10 seconds to line up and maximize the clock

He's contradicting himself in the q&a.
You and I just have a different opinion on the interpretation of his comments and what we think procedure should be.
Where?

A running clock is a different situation. That wasn’t the case here.

The very fact that he claims the length of play makes a difference...

Kevin Stine, replay official, Minnesota-Buffalo. What happened Sunday in Buffalo doesn’t bode well for Stine. His faux pas didn’t determine the winner in the game, but it very well could have. Buffalo was down 30-27 with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and Josh Allen threw deep down the left sideline for Gabe Davis, who dove and, officials ruled, caught it while falling out of bounds. It was close, but it should have been incomplete—Davis was lightly juggling the ball as he fell to earth. And senior VP of officiating Walt Anderson agreed in a pool report: “Even though it happens fast, Buffalo hurries to the line of scrimmage for the next play,” Anderson said. “If the replay official can’t confirm it was a catch on that long of a completed pass, we should stop play to ensure it is a catch. I’ll have to find out from the replay official exactly what he didn’t feel like he saw to stop the game.”

Between the no review and the fact that Buffalo had 12 on the field when we got stuffed on 4th and goal from the half yard line, it was nice to find a way. Even if that means we were reliant on a fumbled snap in the endzone.

We will still be 8-2 after this game, the sky isnt falling.

Coming out flat a week after that huge emotional game isnt surprising at all.

We did look this bad through 3qrts last week too.
The sky isn't falling, but you can't count on miracle fishes all the time either.

Team needed to get a dose of reality and punched in the jaw.

When Darrisaw left, it was over, although likely was before then. Brutal that he is out Thursday, too.
