Somebody needs to get Kyle davidson on the phone. He likes his washed up old defenseman.

40 years old is a player in his prime to the Blackhawks.

Not only is he 40 like others have said, he's also coming off a major injury.

Those two things don't mix very well.

Lots of snarky “he’s 40” responses but not a lot of substance in this thread. Guy is a former Norris winner and captain (plus his Norris was 5 years ago, not 15) if he’s willing to take $800k and play 60% of games there’s not much of a compelling argument for why you wouldn’t take him in your lockerroom and let him be a #7. He’ll end up somewhere.

He stated that he isn't ready for retirement and wants to play for a few more seasons. No teams want this guy even as a #7D?
For one he's 40 and also there's still quite a few RFA's that aren't signed yet, so teams are still making their way through free agents, rfa's, and also dealing with vacation because you know, these blokes do tend to have these after their 82+ game grind.

He could sign a very cheap 1yr deal with a team that wants to add some veteran leadership and don't mind rotating him in their 3rd pairing.

He can still provide solid minutes but he can't play every game anymore

No, he can't.

Surely as a Maple Leafs fan you saw plenty of Mark Giordano last season and he absolutely wasn't providing Toronto with "solid minutes."

He can still play at the NHL level, in spot duty, but nobody is looking at Mark Giordano to give them solid minutes.

That ship has sailed, long ago.

Five years can make a huge difference. On 10/1/75 heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali defeated Joe Frazier in a thrilling fight. On 10/2/80 Muhammad Ali was a punching bag for heavyweight champion Larry Holmes.

I figured after preseason he gets signed when someone top7 defenseman gets hurt.

I think he can still play. His goals against per 60 numbers are still elite. Just the offense is gone.

It clearly has made a huge difference since we’re discussing a league minimum contract to be a #7 and locker room guy. My point was only that it’s not like he hasn’t played at a high level in THIS league against its current talent. He has valuable experience and I’d be shocked if he isn’t signed before camps start.
