Sounds like a trade could be a real possibility.

That, to me, reads more like he's willing to go into the pen or work a swing role or something. You don't usually see guys accepting trade potential phrased in such an "included in the solution" positive way.

Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Rhéal Cormier dies at 53 - Sportsnet.ca

Canadian pitcher Rheal Cormier, who spent 16 years in the major leagues, has died after a battle with cancer.

The native of Moncton, N.B., was 53.

He's older than I thought. I remember him from the early/mid 2000s. It was a surprise to find out his career ran back into the early/mid 90s.

Interesting... I remember him from the mid-90s and was surprised because I didn't remember him pitching as late as 2007.

I cant believe that the Jays couldnt offer Odiruzzi a better contract then he got from the Astros. Details have come out that its a 3 year deal worth 23.5 million total?

Jay could have easily offered 3yrs X 10 million, what they are thinking I do not know.

It’s probably better for the Jays to see what happens internally, than make that sort of commitment to a mid-tier pitcher.

I am more surprised we didn’t give Paxton a one year offer, however Paxton said there was mutual interest, so I’m assuming the Jays something in medicals they didn’t like.

We have a strong bullpen. There’s optimism around Ray and Matz being able to be average starters for us. Then we have Ryu and Pearson. A few who can fill out the number 5 role.

See how it goes, and look to make an addition in-season from one of the selling clubs.

I understand the rationale you state. But at that price which is lower than what Walker signed for with NYM. You have to think the Jays knew this and they had to make some offer. Especially for that price.

Well, the plan for #2 doesn't look to.be ready for his first start of the year.

I used to think we basically had a true ace and then a bunch of 4/5 guys with Pearson as the wildcard.

I've warmed up to Ray more as being a #3 now if he can keep throwing strikes, but the wheels falling off is in his range of outcomes as well.

We should outscore some of our starting pitching problems, but if the offense starts cold it could be a rough start.

Hopefully can find a trade option sometime a bit before the deadline.

I know i'm in the minority but a few weeks ago i said leave Pearson off the roster to get more reps and rest or start him in the pen. If he is ready, have him start in May.

He hasnt pitched more than 110 innings in the last 5 years. If we are in the playoffs it would be irresponsible to expect him to pitch 150+ innings and then potentially playoffs.

Im fine giving the staff after Ryu 3-5 starts aka the first month or so to see what they can do. If the arent good then give guys like Kay, Thornton, Hatch, Zeuch etc a month. And if by June you dont have 5-6 guys you can trust, make a trade.

I still like Porcello on a cheap deal

Ryu
Ray
Porcello
Roark
Matz
Stripling

Projected fWAR:
Odorizzi - 1.7
Matz - 1.4
Walker - 1.3
Roark - 1.2

Given the way the rotation is currently constructed and the cheap, young depth they have, I don't think throwing more mediocre starters onto the pile would have made a whole lot of sense, particularly at a three year commitment.

I would have liked Paxton at the deal he got since it's one year and he would have been a legitimate upgrade, but given what/where he ended up signing for, I'm really curious what the medicals looked like.

Ultimately, I'm fine with spending the money on a couple huge-upside position players, seeing how things play out in the rotation, and adding as needed throughout the season (and next offseason, too, since there should be a lot of really good options available and the window is just opening now anyway).

Not going hard after Odorizzi points to what some have said already. They are going to ride with what they have right now with the ability to make a David Price type of acquisition like in 2015 closer to deadline.

Its the only thing that makes sense. They cannot and will not head into a run to post season and eventual post season with what they have penciled in for a rotation to start. Waiting until next off season as some suggest will only waste away a year. You dont go get Springer and Semien (for 1yr) to stand pat on rotation.

If they added Odorizzi or Walker they would still be in the same position they're in today where they're hoping for a bounceback and prepared to add at the deadline if it doesn't pan out, they would just have another mediocre pitcher in the "bounceback" category and less money available when they deadline comes around.

Look guys, I don't want credit for suggesting this, but I want everyone to know that I suggested this and to give me credit.

It really is hilarious that we have a way to watch the games now, not because of, but in spite of the corporate communications giant that owns the team.

Jays ownership and management perusing HFboards for player acquisition and corporate ideas.

Use your power wisely guys.

Ask your man on the inside why they missed out on him

Kirk is an exceptional contact hitter.

We are just flat out better with him hitting in our lineup.

Hopefully the Braves called and told Stroman they were signing Goins.
AA knows better than not to have discussed this with him ahead of time. Being a minor league contract you don’t want to ruffle feathers
