By the way, sanctions won't and aren't doing a thing. So why do them? Let them compete, and make things a LOT more interesting in the tournament.
This is the excuse people use when they don't actually care about changing a thing. It's fewer words than saying "a few thousand dead (so far) in Kyiv has no impact on my life, so please don't disrupt my life in any way that approaches any meaning"' It's not markedly different than saying "laws against murder don't prevent murder, so let's do away with those laws." At some point decent people have to say there are consequences for killing thousands, disrupting millions and devastating an entire country.

And yes, the same logic was applied to South Africa as the international community pressed for some kind of sanctions to pressure their government to dismantle the apartheid system. People portrayed South African rugby players as the victims, when they weren't really victims. (Are Russian hockey players losing out? Sure. Is it fair? Probably not. Do I think their ability to play international hockey is so important I am going to forget that Russia is bombing the shit out of civilian infrastructure? Not in the slightest. More crucially, do I think that posters here actually care about those Russian teenagers? I don't: I think they care about their desire to watch top-level hockey, and I wonder, who is really virtue signalling here?) Sanctions - including sanctions involving sport - had an impact on apartheid and left in place, they will have an impact on Russia as well.

Just for the people that think this being in the summer isn't a factor the wait list for the tournament at Christmas time is currently at 50 thousand people lol
All the more reason to take advantage of this tournament when you could actually get tickets.

I watched the game in a bar in montreal and nobody even knew what was on the television. Me and my buddy were the only ones even tunning in in a pretty packed place . We were kinda suprised. The hype around this thing is DEAD (though i suspect people in QC dont care much about WJC as much as the rest of canada)

I don't understand why Canada gets to host this every year. Last time they messed it up completely and we had to reschedule the whole tournament to now due to their incompetence.

Canada hosting most of the years is fine, If they put it in Cities that DON'T Usually get hockey.
Put this in Quebec, etc

I feel like that's only been a recent development, no? There's been WJC's in every other competing country, save for maybe Germany or something. Going forward though I do seem to remember there being a pattern between hosting it in Canada and then switching to, say, Buffalo or some other northern US city.

Yup. Just what I thought. You are a waste of time. You are spouting talking points over and over again and bringing in unrelated “comparisons” and blaming the media. You’re sounding like Donald trump.

Hockey has enough Trump-like figures. The sport doesn't need any more. Speaking of which, why wasn't USA banned when he was in control?

I gotta be honest I never understood this "It's Xtime" mentality. Who cares what time of year it is? Are you a fan or not? If you are sitting around watching tv why would you limit yourself over some arbitrary thing?

If you never watch it or are on vacation or whatever, I get it. But if you otherwise would be watching hockey but refuse because of something so stupid (imo) you probably aren't that big of a fan of the tournament / sport as you let on. And that's ok.
One thing I’ve learned is that a lot of hockey fans almost find real joy in claiming they in fact don’t actually like hockey. It’s like some sort of contest to prove how little they truly care. Don’t want to watch? No worries, yet you’re spending your summer on a hockey messaging board? Get off your moral high ground

It makes a lot of difference, especially with the word games you're trying to play.
Take a hike with your blatant manipulation techniques here. Everyone can see right through you, you’re trying to trip this poster up. Why does it matter what he or she thinks? You don’t know either. Is she lying? Couldn’t tell you, do I think she is? Again, who knows, not you or I. If I had enough money and a big enough axe to grind, I could take you down as well with allegations. Wouldn’t be hard to find someone in your past whose not a fan of you and have them take things to the police. To think people can’t lie or falsify stories to hurt someone is as naive as it gets. What do you even want to see done? There is an ongoing investigation, do you just want them to go to firing whoever they can think of despite them maybe having zero involvement? Change the name of hockey Canada? Ban Canada from future iihf events? What are you really hoping to see done?

Not the final word, but some actual facts in Gord Miller’s thread.

Good thread by Miller. Not sure about Edmonton hosting again soon though. I'm in the priority draw for the 2023 tournament so it's interesting to hear about the positive projections for that tournament despite the short notice.

Germany in 1992 (West Germany in 1981), Switzerland in 1997

I see they are selling some team Canada tickets at $60 dollars today (upper). They could have just done this from the beginning.

I still won't be buying it though.

Please.

I bet you feel the exact same way about OJ. He wasn't guilty either according the the law. Or is that different somehow?

Let's see If the final has more fans than average game in Switzerland's NLA.. Any game where Canada doesn't play there are less fans than in 2nd tier European league's games. Having these tournaments in North America is disgrace they don't deserve international hockey

I hope they host it in North America more.

Just for the heck of it.

Especially in the summer.

Something to throw on the TV while BBQing.

Mmmmmm, tasty!

I could have an annual World Junior BBQ if they keep holding it in August where I invite friends over to barely pay attention to the game.

I predict that you don't need something to throw on the TV tonight, you will need to throw at the TV with something instead.
