You seem to have a lot of pent up hostility.

Perhaps some green tea and yoga is in order?

I’m THIS close to maybe considering the possibility of perhaps not inviting you to my WJC BBQ.

Thanks doc, but I think I am good with celebrating tonight instead of yoga and the tea.

No worries I'm next door at a better BBQ! I can save the mushrooms for you.

I don't understand why Canada gets to host this every year. Last time they messed it up completely and we had to reschedule the whole tournament to now due to their incompetence.

It was a hot mess in 2020 and 2021. Honestly, an American city that was close to a Canadian border (North Dakota hosting it in 2005, Buffalo, etc.) would have been much better at that time. Prior to that, Canada usually broke attendance records every time they hosted. Winnipeg broke the attendance record in 1999, and then it just kept getting bigger.

I would be quiet after this game if I was a canadian. Congrats I guess.
No reason to be quiet, undefeated and beat you not once but twice.

To be a good winner one must first be a good loser, you have failed on the being a good loser, let's see how you do when you win, not going to be this time though, you lost.

You will just have to suck it up like a big boy.

This tournament will be looked back as a meme. I guess it had a fitting end. I can smile next time when Canadians complain about refs.

True. But 2020 was pre-Covid and in the Czech Republic.

The thing that people keep pointing to is how no one wants to sit an arena watch hockey in summer. Would that logic have applied to same extent had this tourney been played in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland or Czechia? I know traditionally the World Jr's attendance in Europe is not great, which is why Canada gets the tournament all the time. But there were games played this time before literal empty buildings. What do my European friends say? Would a few more people have come out for games not involving the host countries?

I don't think the situation would have been that different in Finland either. Personally I would have loved to go and spend time in a chilled arena since I can't handle this 30c heat wave we also have been suffering of for two weeks straight lol.
But I believe the biggest issue was ticket pricing. In Helsinki 2016 you could get tickets for random round robin games excluding Finland and other top nations for 12-20€, and the arena was packed of families with kids. I get that the event is more popular in Canada so the prices are higher there. But the tickets for a summer tournament should have been cheaper, obviously it wasn't priced correctly. Wouldn't it have been more important just to sell more tickets and get more revenue from merch and food at the arena and stuff like that?

And I understood that the event wasn't marketed that much because of the Hockey Canada scandals? Marketing and ads make a huge difference, like it or not.

I almost feel that Hockey Canada forgot they had a tourney going on.

Did anyone from Hockey Canada do a presser yet? I know I read one about the IIHF comments, but the article said they've yet to find someone to talk to from hockey Canada.

They should've known before the first puck drop that tickets were overpriced and made adjustments, but they didn't. Lots of miss opportunity and it's as if Hockey Canada really didn't know what was going on.

Pretty sure the last thing anyone at Hockey Canada wants to do is parade around and take any credit whatsoever for this win, given the shitstorm surrounding them right now. :help:

Which is fair, but the IIHF had a presser to talk about some of the fails of the tourney. Would be nice to hear why Hockey Canada decided not to adapt and make the tourney more accessible.
