Not true.Nobody, outside of some Virtue Signaling peeps on these boards do.
And the US played 3 of their first 4 games after 9 PM local time in the Eastern and Central time zones. I considered getting the NHL Network just to watch this tournament but after seeing the schedule I decided that the Youtube highlights would suffice. Plus, is the Athletic even covering the tournament? Pronman only tweets the players of the game. I could do that. Hell, I get better coverage on here than I do from that paid service with actual reporters that are supposed to cover NHL prospects. What are they doing with these start times. Canada plays at 2PM local time and Sweden Finland play at 6PM local time for the semi-finals?!
Why have the home team play a Friday afternoon start? Also the Sweden vs Finland game will start at 2AM Sweden time and 3AM Finland time so that game would be better timed to start in the early slot for their fans watching in their home countries.
Toronto doesn’t really support junior hockey, they folded and moved all their teams.Move it to Toronto New York or Vegas. No one is heading up to Edmonton just for the juniors.
The Athletic is clearly going out of its way to not cover the tournament, along the same lines as TSN barely promoting it. I think that we can all agree that The Athletic, to which people subscribe in part for hockey coverage, is taking a heroic stance. And the US played 3 of their first 4 games after 9 PM local time in the Eastern and Central time zones. The CBC really going hard in on opposing this tournament
I'll avoid the ridiculous idea that this beloved tournament was cancelled at Christmas time. If people are like me, they can't get into it for many reasons. Although I am sure it will be exciting come Christmas again.
But let's isolate one of them right now. How can you take a tournament seriously if Russia isn't there? I'm sorry, I can't do it. The last legitimate game at the WJC was the 2020 gold medal game between Canada and Russia and it was spectacular. They can't play this thing without the Russians.
This is less an indictment of Hockey Canada or Canadian fans and more simple proof that international hockey doesn't have widespread, universal appeal.
For those who think this is an HFboards/Twitter/Reddit thing.
Are you equating the bungling of an investigation with the death of thousands of Ukrainian civilians?I don't disagree with any of this, but the host of the tournament was directly involved in multiple assaults. They haven't received a punishment from the IIHF yet.
Hockey Canada issue isn't ongoing?
Yes they can, and deservedly so.I'll avoid the ridiculous idea that this beloved tournament was cancelled at Christmas time. If people are like me, they can't get into it for many reasons. Although I am sure it will be exciting come Christmas again.

The Scale of the issues are oceans apart. They can't be compared. HC will have consequences. The Government pulled funding, Advertising backed down from supporting, the Board will likely be completely replaced and they may be placed under government oversight.I don't disagree with any of this, but the host of the tournament was directly involved in multiple assaults. They haven't received a punishment from the IIHF yet.

I can't even be bothered to watch most games on tv.
Its summer time. Really not that interested in spending 2-1/2 hours watching a hockey game... and I'm certainly not interested in spending $100+ to do it in person.
For those who think this is an HFboards/Twitter/Reddit thing.
You actually know that multiple assaults took place? And that Hockey Canada was "directly involved"? Should probably go to the police with your evidence.I don't disagree with any of this, but the host of the tournament was directly involved in multiple assaults. They haven't received a punishment from the IIHF yet.
