Mete is quietly being what he is, a bottom pairing Dman. He seems to be in good position and not overplayed his role. Really like his game so far.
Always liked Mete since London, I knew he would work out well.

Kudos to Keefe for getting some weight into the lineup last night, Team obviously played bigger.
Big reason for this win.

That is what I am saying. If he was called for interference, that goal doesn't happen and that game score looks a lot worse for him.

Could have called the WPG player for interference.

Is there a dirtier team in the league than Winnipeg ? Too dog shit to keep up with the actual game so as usual resort to just being straight up chicken shit and making dirty plays.

Best part of that beatdown on the Jets was the "Go Leafs Go" chants IN Winnipeg lmao, just embarrassing getting booed and outcheered in your own building.
What’s wrong with being dirty, It’s a hockey game? To answer your question, Tampa.

My limited viewing what I noticed:
-Tavares looks faster out there no question, good start.
- Robertson is fiesty and I love his effort in the d zone. He back checks nicely, is skilled reminds me of a less mean more skilled Gallagher.
-Samsonov is so damn athletic. His positioning looks questionable but it's working now and hopefully it continues.
-defence is pretty legit. Holl looks solid. He can just skate so effortless sometimes.

Ps. Can't wait till Liljegren is back
Agree 100%.

I thought the PP goal off the Matthews shot when the crowd was chanting “Matthews sucks“ made the go leafs go chant even sweeter.

I love how Rielly mauls somebody in retaliation, Sandin's out there crushing people, Matthews is throwing big hits, Tavares, Bunting, and Holl are running in to protect their teammates, etc., but that doesn't fit the narrative so the reaction on this board is to somehow credit Simmonds and Clifford for it all.

Should have been 3-0 or 4-0.

Jets only goal was clearly offside. Dreger said there was a memo out to teams not to challenge close plays, it seems accurate as the Leafs video room usually doesn't miss challenges like this.

The solution to the offside challenge is letting the linesman view It a regular speed, at two angles, and unless it’s obvious, the call stands. Same with plays around the bag in baseball.

He‘s played well. He played well, at times, in Montreal, too.

I wish they could maintain it. The Leafs are not Colorado, but they played their tough guys all year and didn’t dress in the playoffs, so maybe it’ll work.
It’s not needed every night but anyone that understands the game at more than a spreadsheet level knows having those types on the bench fires everyone up. Just knowing that afternoon that they would be in the lineup preps the players mentally for what is coming that night. It’s not just a coincidence that they played bigger last night.

Not only did the team play bigger as expected, but we got our push back and it was a more entertaining hockey game. We saw some real intensity and real physicality with which Hockey should be played..

Against Dallas we saw our best players mauled all night, and not a peep or a glimpse of a push back, only take the abuse and then turn the other cheek.

Watching that Arizona game was more like watching figure skating and the entertainment level similar to watching paint dry.

Basically it would, unless it’s blatantly obvious, you wouldnt challenge.

Theoretically to increase offence, the blue line should be like the goal line in football. Measured at the center ice side of the line, as soon as tip enters the zone it’s in, or the entire puck exits the zone, it’s out. The skaters use other side of the blue line.

Knowing they have someone in the lineup puts an few extra pounds of courage in their step. It doesn’t completely deter the opposition, but it gives them something to think about.
Teams like having a Ryan Reaves on their bench.

Mentioned in the GDT that there are a number fans that just are unable to make that connection.

Winnipeg has a lot of offensive weapons in their lineup and it’s a real positive to see us just continue on playing well with no Muzzin, no Liljegren, and no Benn available on the backend.

Much more entertaining. I love watching teams stick up for each other and then carry it into their play.

ETA - and the goalie making big saves helps with the flow.

No, it's not a coincidence that last night was a more physical game. It was against Winnipeg, and Winnipeg is a dirty team that has attempted to injure our players in this and recent matchups. That is the reason why it got chippy and physical, not because Simmonds and Clifford were sitting on the bench. :eyeroll:

And once again, this team showed they can handle themselves just fine on their own.

This should have helped them ..

Toronto Game Winning Goal : David Kampf (2) - Assists: Wayne Simmonds (1), Kyle Clifford (1)

Leafs former 4th line didn't even register a shot on net in 3 of the first 5 games.

The entire team elevated their games physically, and it was nice to see the team push back and not simply get push around.
