I'm starting to really like Samsonov, he seems to play really well positionally, he has an excellent glove hand and good groundwork.

The D was pretty good tonight they made a few errors but none that were fatal. The goal could be laid at the feet of 15 and 19, who were both at the end of their shift but still, if you need to take the penalty to save a goal, you take the penalty.

Holl and Sandin looked like a solid NHL second pairing tonight which hopefully continues. Sandin seems to be right up to game speed now and Holl doesn't have to cover up for him a whole lot. The other two pairs need some polishing on some rough edges but generally their play has been average and could use some improvement.

The top line seems to be out of synch but is starting to solidify generating chances and hopefully the pucks that are not getting to the net or whistling/trickling wide can start hitting mesh.

The 2 line has been excellent mostly due I think because of this new motor JT seems to have, he's playing physical, faster and out hustling the opponents. Will looks like he's still got a few steps to go till he reaches his peak, when he does he'll rank at least as a top 10 RW in the entire league, Robertson had a decent showing tonight, he mixed it up, had a couple of shots and didn't avoid contact. Most importantly worked hard whether he had the puck or not.

Simmonds Kampf and Clifford were giving the Jets fits and playing in the Jets zone more than in their own. If you win the 4th line shifts, you usually you come away with the two points.

The 3 line got burned after winning a draw getting a shot on goal that rebounded out to the top of the circle level on the side boards that created a 3 on 2. Neither of the two Leaf forwards who got back bothered to pick up the trailer who snagged the rebound and slid it past Samsonov. I have no idea where Ketfoot was going unless he thought the puck had gotten behind the net and Jarnkrok seemed to be happy watching Samsonov make the primary save. Both of those players are normally more aware of what they should be doing. Maybe they were tired, but I'd imagine watching the film won't be very fun for either of them.

On to Vegas, more bet365 and more MGMGrand for in person action

Matthews had 13 shot attempts tonight. It's just a matter of when he's going to start scoring at a rapid pace

when the damn breaks it will be a gusher.
Thought his Dallas game was a bit underappreciated too. Gutsy game did a bunch of little but important things right and was very much responsible for that win. Not just the beauty pass to Robertson's great shot, but it was his stick that allowed Robertson to break up the initial Benn move breaking in.

Should have been 3-0 or 4-0.

Jets only goal was clearly offside. Dreger said there was a memo out to teams not to challenge close plays, it seems accurate as the Leafs video room usually doesn't miss challenges like this.

Clownshow NHL, when they themselves called in to challenge a close play in the game against Arizona  :banghead: :banghead:

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Dreger was pointing out the double standard. Leafs should have challenged and if the NHL said anything, mention the Arizona game.

what game are you watching ?

the second line was complete garbage tonight. they got dominated 5 on 5 tonight , a couple more games like that there is no way that line sticks together.
also clifford has been irrelevent for years now and bring nothing to the table. he sucks and takes stupid penalties EVERY time he plays. ill be glad if he never plays again.

Simmonds was good except for that dumb penalty.

Simmonds was lucky he wasn't called for interference on Kampf's goal too. If he was, that is two dumb penalties and he brought nothing to the table. Barely hit anyone and the one time he showed aggressiveness, he took a bad penalty.

Kampf did play his best game of the year outside of faceoffs, where he was bad again. Although I am not sure how much that has to do with Simmonds/Clifford because the most noticeable improvement for him was on the PK.

Uh huh. You saw the game winning goal no? He also had a better game score than half the team.

Not saying he should be a regular but let's not act like he was a non-factor tonight.

That is what I am saying. If he was called for interference, that goal doesn't happen and that game score looks a lot worse for him.

That play happens all the time and is only called when it can screw us in the playoffs. We've had a couple of goals against us that should've been called back by that standard but weren't because it's rarely called. I get that you weren't a big fan of adding muscle to the lineup but trying to diminish their contributions tonight.

IDK, the Holl one was more incidental contact that this one. Simmonds looked a lot more deliberate, like he was trying to hit the guy.

Maybe I am just used to those being called, but that was more interference than most interference calls I have seen.

Doesn't really matter either way. Happy it wasn't called, and they should be coming out of the lineup next game anyways. They were brought in for their physicality in this one game and ironically their greatest contribution was that 2nd goal while Rielly is the one who got into a fight.

ZAR needs to come out too. This was the worst 3rd line game of the year.

I thought Simmonds looked great. I think Clifford is a step behind.

If we have to cap space I think Simmonds would be a great guy rotating in and out of the lineup as the 13th forward.

My limited viewing what I noticed:
-Tavares looks faster out there no question, good start.
- Robertson is fiesty and I love his effort in the d zone. He back checks nicely, is skilled reminds me of a less mean more skilled Gallagher.
-Samsonov is so damn athletic. His positioning looks questionable but it's working now and hopefully it continues.
-defence is pretty legit. Holl looks solid. He can just skate so effortless sometimes.

Ps. Can't wait till Liljegren is back

I'm convinced you live in an alternate universe. Must be allergic to physical contact

Your opinions leave everyone here mystified.

Simmonds had a decent game, even without that goal setup a better game than NAK or Engvall have had this year. Agree that ZAR needs to come out next. Engvall back in, maybe Malgin gets a game NAK, ZAR and Clifford sit. Steeves is the next guy up who deserves a look.

Coach alluded to Engvall’s skating post injury… I don’t know if sitting out some games and training will help, or if there is something else going on.

This one was pretty incidental. He didn’t see the Winnipeg player and seems to have put his arm out to protect himself from a surprise collision.

Justin Holl was a blatant and deliberate pick.

Is there a dirtier team in the league than Winnipeg ? Too dog shit to keep up with the actual game so as usual resort to just being straight up chicken shit and making dirty plays.

Best part of that beatdown on the Jets was the "Go Leafs Go" chants IN Winnipeg lmao, just embarrassing getting booed and outcheered in your own building.

Other than the offside goal, the Leafs did get the benefits of the officiating last night. Happens once in a while. The House has to let you win occasionally but the House still wins overall.
