I want a GM that can manage a cap so that in the event of an unforeseen circumstance (like a goalie injury, not like we haven't one of those lately) we aren't stuck putting in a university goalie.

but then again, that's just probably boomer talk.

I don't see why anyone would be :)

But the rest of the league is dealing with the same thing. Yet we're the only one grabbing kids from the local university.

Vegas played 10 games a man short last year.

They even played one game 3 men short.

Leafs could have gone 1 man short tonight and called up Hutch, if they wanted to.

What if that GM foresaw that in the event of an injury he could go over the cap for an injury replacement, at the low price of going 1 solitary game a man short.

Well, if Robin Lehner or Darcy Kuemper or whomever hurt their groin, I guess we'll see how the other teams stickhandle these random emergencies.

Not really sure how many teams are actively carrying 3 goalies...

I'd rather do that. Especially considering Campbell saw action last game. It's not the end of the world but it just highlights how against the wall we are.

Kinda needs to be in the gameplan when Mrazek is one of said goalies :p I line him... But dude can't stay healthy.

Well they aren't, but they call one up from their minor league team.

Keep in mind the only reason they can afford a 22 man roster is due to Mikheyev being on LTIR.

We could have chosen not to be up against the wall. We could have a lower payroll.

Or we could spend more, knowing this emergency recall rule.

Given how people around here often react if Michael Hutchinson comes anywhere near the Leafs net, I'm surprised that we haven't seen people claiming the Leafs are better off with Bishop as a backup. :)

you have this fascination with thinking spending more somehow equals spending better.

you a government worker?

Just cause you have money to buy your way out of bad management doesn't negate the fact it's bad management.

They're literally pulling a guy that probably lives in a dorm in. LOL.

I don’t think he’s getting paid that much is he?

My understanding is that he gets paid nothing. He gets to attend the games that he's emergency goalie for and to practice with the team occasionally. I believe the reason for no pay is that it allows teams to use NCAA goalies as emergency backups. I've heard though that teams often take up a collection to give to an emergency backup who dresses.

But as usual, I could be wrong.

Using the emergency recall is good management, not bad.

It's like if I organized an event and blew my budget.... And I was forced to bring in the guy on the corner playing guitar as entertainment instead of the band.....I wouldn't expect my client to cheer me on. I could just tell them it's a feel good story though? LOL
