I feel so sorry for anyone who is an Oilers fan living through this era. There is no light at the end of the tunnel for your franchise...stay strong guys! Hall out, Lucic and Larsson in......yikes

Remember all that talk from before about how the Oilers might have to seemingly lose a trade (in vacuum value) to ultimately improve their overall team?

They just did.

I look forward to seeing the results. I suspect this will go a lot better for them than the optics of the deal might otherwise suggest.

I was honestly expecting them to lose a trade built around Drai, Eberle or RNH. Hall is legitimately great. Granted, I've never been impressed with Larsson, but still...

One for one deal?

Chia continuing his habit of trading good young players for lesser pieces I see...

Im in the minority here apparently as I think its close to a fair trade. Hall was a little overated and Larsson a little underated around here.
Value favours NJ a bit but not much and considering the Oilers weak bargaining position they did well.

It probably makes the Oilers better overall but it's not really a fair deal. Chia being Chia.

Shero won this one.

And yeah, poor Edmonton fans if this is a salary dump by Edmonton in an attempt to sign Lucic.

Looks like an ugly trade right now, but I did expect the Oilers were going to have to accept a trade that would be a loss in terms of value, but a win for the Oilers long term. A pairing of Klefbom - Larsson could be one of the best shutdown pairings in the league in a couple of years. Both are young, both should continue developing. What the Oilers have to do now is acquire a high end offensive defensman...a top four of this:

Klefbom - Larsson
Sekera - XXX (e.g. Shattenkirk, Barrie)

They would be one hell of a team if they pulled that off. I just don't know what they have left. RNH?

I'm still laughing so hard.

Oilers fans considered Hall better than Kessel and a top 5 LW ever since he was drafted. How do you guys feel about this trade? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

I'm happy with it. Larsson is a good defenseman. Oilers will be even more happy when they sign lucic and demers July 1st. And yes they'll have cap space. They can always buy out useless assets and get rid of assets during expansion draft

Haven't laughed this hard at a deal in a while. This makes the Gudbranson deal look like the Forsberg for Erat deal

Happy as an Oilers fan. Hall is one of the most gifted athletes in the game today, but he has the hockey IQ of a pineapple. Lucic will be a fine replacement. He doesn't create things like Hall, but he's smarter and can do all the gritty stuff. Doesn't have to be a driver playing with McDavid.

A healthy Klefbom paired with Larsson has me very excited.

WTF are you talking about? If you think he has the hockey IQ of a pineapple then he must be built like Lindros to put up the stats he does.
