Larsson is a very good young defenseman. He still has some improving to do in order to reach the value Chiarelli placed on him in this trade.

Nice one, Chia. You have now traded away both the #1 and #2 picks from the 2010 draft for way less than they were worth.

Wow. Now THAT is a classic hockey trade.

People are going to by-in-large call this a win for NJD which it might be slightly but don't underestimate or underrate Larsson or the value of a top line RH RD for Edmonton.

Is this worse than Seguin for Eriksson courtesy of Chiarelli as well ? Because it certainly could be

Larsson is good and still has upside but....

Devils.
Sign.
Stamkos.

Rebuild complete.

No Larsson will hurt their defense, but they still have some great pieces back there.

Add Stamkos and a vet D - Brian Campbell mayhaps.
BAM. My Cup favourite instantly.

Plus, what incentive for Stamkos and a guy like Campbell to join now!

WOW!

A lot of people are underselling Larsson here.... he's a decent middle pairing guy right now with a lot of room to grow, he's young and signed to a pretty cheap deal.

Hall is the cost right now for a player like that.... that's just the market.

Oil fans if your reading this, don't feel bad. there's no sickening joke at the end of this.

We're in this weird place where the entire league is at a loss for quality d-men. I mean, I could probably count the number of #2 shutdown d-man on my two hands.

On offence, guys like Kessel, Hall, Stamkos, Nash etc can essentially be traded for. Goal scorers are valued, but we are not in scarcity for quality scorers like we are for d-men.

Larsson may not be a #1. I would view him as a #2 or #3 d-man. But honestly, because there are probably maybe 15 guys in the league that are a "true" # 1' ; then it's not hard to understand the value here. Larsson is probably ranked around 30-40 in terms of NHL D-men which makes him a legit #2.

Hall may be a "star" but you can replace his production. You just drafted a hell of a player.

I mock the oilers as well, but people are just in reaction mode on an internet page. and it's fun for them to laugh at the oilers.

Fact is , value wise it makes sense.

This is what happens when you try and force an issue. Yeah EDM needed a top pairing D really badly, but that doesnt mean you need to make the trade at ALL costs, especially when you objectively lose the said trade.

Larsson isn't pulling the Oilers out of the basement. If you cant get what you want and what you need, then wait.

Oilers going for Patrick '17

:handclap: This was the response I expected to any legitimate hockey trade. Oilers still suck, what an overpay, Chiarelli is a loser.

The Oilers took one step closer to filling out their D with an excellent young player. That's a fact and I don't know how it can be ignored.

Chia got ripped off.

But I guess that also confirms that Lucic is about to become an Oiler.

Larsson is good but he's got warts...really thought Edmonton would have gotten a more proven, stable guy. Especially for Hall.

Rishaug was right that this is the Oilers settling because they pretty much had to. Should've addressed the D years ago. They didn't and this is what happens. They don't get fair value.

And Chiarelli has traded both Hall & Seguin, the #1 and #2 picks in the draft, right?...that's gotta be some kind of weird record or legacy.

If it's straight up it's potentially a gigantic robbery by New Jersey.

But they're still holding on to RNH, Eberle and Yak? Now they have a hole at LW but three top-6 centers.

Also, being a fantasy owner of Hall he has instantly become trade bait for me.
