On a side note, despite the value of this trade being bad, this actually gives Oilers a semblance of defense, while weakening their offense which I'm slightly more afriad of now as the team is more balanced.

I love how people underestimate Larsson, he is a stud, next Vlasic. No player in NHL plays more dzone starts then him. But I guess Points is everything..

Exactly. Also defenceman, especially right handed ones, are at a premium at the moment. For the Oilers, fixing the D is more important than the slight overpayment from a team loaded with wingers.

Gotta appreciate that Edmonton got a defenceman, but Larsson is a #3 IMO. All-around good defenceman, but not sure if he'll ever be a minute-muncher, + player.

Hall has a big cap-hit, 6M. Can't keep that with McDavid, Draisaitl, and the other young guys around. Overpaid for a #3 though.

Nah man. Larsson is on track to be a bonafide #1/2. Maybe he won't put up the point totals people expect from those types but he was already emerging as the best d-man on the blueline for the Devils and ate tons of difficult minutes for that team and was one of the few + players.

He's gonna be pretty damn good.

Hall is a one dimensional winger with attitude issues .

Am I the only Devils fan not happy?

I wasn't happy with it at first because the D took a step back defensively losing Larsson given how well he played the last season and a half. But the team does need scoring and they do have a top 5 goalie that can steal games and help cover up holes in the D. I dont think Hall has attitude problems and it's really hard to look like more than a one dimensional winger in Edmonton since he has been there with how bad they have been.

Absolutely. From a Wild fans perspective this is sweet, sweet justice. Having to endure those months of trades of "RNH for ++++++++++++++++++++" and now getting to watch Edm melt the **** down is pure gold.

Except multiple GMs are coming out saying that they would've/did offer more.

So it's more like Chia fell in love with Larsson than he didn't value Hall much.

-Did the Oliers need D? Yes
-Will the overall offseason make them better? Likely
-Should Taylor, an elite level winger, gotten them more than a at best #2 (and yes ive watched him play and that is exactly what he is). F yeah he should have.

A guy like Eberle should get a guy like Larsen not Hall.

I agree with everything except that last statement. Eberle does not get you Larsson.

I don't think the Devils would have trade Larsson for anyone on the oilers not named "McDavid or Hall.

Going back even further, to me this is Edmonton paying the piper for McDavid falling onto their laps and the rest of being forced to ''deal with it because your jealous''.

Someone in Edmonton made a deal with the devil.

-5 cups in 7 years and then to have a decade+ of futility
-Four 1st overall picks in 6 years, including McDavid. But now they are doomed to lose every trade for the foreseeable future.

But they have ''new management now'', right?:laugh:

Well, at least we can do away with those thrice-be-damned EDM and NJ trade proposals.

This trade is not nearly as bad in value as people are making it sound. Larsson is a superb defensive defenseman with signs of untapped offensive capability (though who knows if he can actually tap it). He's exactly what Edmonton needs.

It just tears the heart out of New Jersey's young defense, though. We're betting really hard on Severson and Santini, I think.

If Larsson continues to develop and turns into a true #1 this could be good, but at the moment this trade makes me absolutely sick as an Oiler fan. Absolutely horrendous value for Hall.

Oilers overpaid a smidge but forwards are always more popular so it looks lopsided.
Hall is awesome (when he is not toe dragging and giving pucks away)

Klef - Larsson. Nice

Devils fan hate this? how? your offense is a lot better

you will love his rushes up the ice

I'm so very disappointed

And hate his many bad giveaways in the neutral zone, missed assignments in the defensive zone, and poor shot selection and cycle game in the offensive zone.

I don't think this deal was that bad. Larsson is an excellent defenseman, he was a part of the best pair defensively by the numbers last year. I think people are both overrating Hall and underrating Larsson here.
