Well hopefully he plays no more then 10 this year and 30 next. A lot less would be good.

In today's NHL the backups play quite a bit - we would likely have to have a real workhorse without an injury history to come in.

IMO - this is basically a guaranteed 2nd which is brutal. EDIT: Appears this might be specifically with the Devils, in which case I will retract.

40 games played total? there's 20 this year and 82 next... so that seems like a low number. A third itself should have been fine for Allen in decline. A 2nd is not good.
No it isn’t, not for a guy who’s a meh goalie at best and likely to be a backup next year

This year he probably splits with Daws and then VV when he comes back.

Next year, you hopefully have a new goalie, Allen, and then Schmid/Daws getting games here or there.

I don’t see Allen hitting 40 unless he runs away with the starting job. If he does and stabilizes the goaltending, I’d gladly pay a second for that.

It’s not a bad bet.

I think this is important. Allen is super stable mentally. Doesn't get down on himself, doesn't blame his team, works hard.
Does he refuse to face the media after games? That much I don't know.

I don't think Vitek has always been a nutcase or anything, but he's beyond mentally shot here, probably after what happened in the playoffs last year.

i was just told that a similar draft pick from the toff trade was great.

so what is it ?

What it is is an extremely obvious lack of critical thinking on your part.

There's a comparatively large amount of good wingers for sale this season, and a smaller amount of people willing to buy them. This deflates pricing.

There's a shortage of goalies for sale this season, and a lot teams looking for them. This inflates pricing.

Think about how hamburgers are cheaper than filet mignon even though they both come from a cow.

It’s possible but I don’t think it’s likely. We almost certainly add another goalie plus there are still the 3 guys we have this year plus possibly Poulter. I’m sure we won’t let him meet the condition. Unless he’s actually really good for us, and in that case, I won’t exactly be complaining.

Exactly, if he’s god awful, then they’ll make sure he doesn’t hit 40 games. If he’s playing well and hits it, then the trade is fine too.

I think they add a goalie on top in the offseason and also if that goalie gets hurt, Allen probably splits time with Daws or Schmid. It's going to be awfully close and it's kind of not fair to Allen that this condition exists.

But also if it is just with NJ, it increases the likelihood he ends up in whatever deal they make for Markstrom.

I understand not liking giving up a probable 2nd for him, but that may have been needed for the retention to be what it was.

Would you rather have sent a 4th, which becomes a 3rd or even just stays a 4th for him at close to $4 million for next year? I would not.

Allen at $1.9 million for next year is a good deal, unless Fitz stops with this and thinks Allen/Vanecek is an acceptable tandem for next year.

I don't think he does think that, as down as we may be on him.

Pretty decent chance he hits 40 GP. Hopefully they plan to call up Daws or Schmid for spot starts next year if he gets close.

Be prepared to kiss our 1st or Holtz goodbye as the centerpiece for a Markstrom trade this summer (or maybe both) 🤦‍♂️

I could live with Holtz, he’s not gonna get a chance here anyway and I don’t love the fit on our roster.

Id have preferred we ran Schmid into the ground and then waived him, and not spend any assets

A backup could have been had for cash in the offseason
