Caufield playing with Hughes would probably turn both guys into 110pts+ regular season players with Caufield battling for the Rocket, IMO.

I'm just not sure it would be all that fire in the playoffs. Timo Meier would be a better get giving that we already a not so tall team.

Also, we need Nemec to replace Severson.

If we could get Meier for like 1st + Holtz + Gritsyuk/Mukhamadullin and re-sign him to a long term deal, I'd much rather than trading that much assets for just one guy.

I suggested the 2nd overall pick for Caufield before the draft and almost all habs fans said they’d accept

Neither would the Habs.
thats fine, 2-3 maybe 4 years from now I think we will know which was the better package and if this was real I highly doubt itll be Caufield better than a combination of Nemec + Holtz + whoever gets selected with NJ's next two years of 1sts.
as a Leafs fan I would much much much MUCH rather Montreal not get this package.

As a Hab fan i agree. I would much much much MUCH rather we keep Caufield.

i don't want caufield and hughes on the same line. hughes is a hockey smurf and caufield us even smaller. with puck this might look good. without it could be awful.

if they produce less, than they give up, it's a net negative.

Nick Villano, hosts of Let's Go Devil's podcast, and Picks and Pitchforks blogger. Offered Holtz, Nemec a '23 first rounder and '24 first rounder for Cole Caufield.

I know most Habs fans won't do it. But offer is massive.
That’s a massive overpay. Habs would say yes so fast. This would set the Habs up to win some championships over time. So I love it for Montreal.

them with Haula could work

I'd love Meier with Hughes, could be a deadly duo.

Caufield is a fan favorite with fantastic chemistry with our Captain #1 center. They are key players that the team will rebuilt around. It would take a ridiculous offer to trade Caufield.

In terms of value, the OP trade definitely favors the Habs but it still isn’t good enough vs. how Mtl values Caufield IMO.

As a Habs fan, no way. Holtz isn't that good. Nemec is the only high piece in that trade. Two late 1st round?? Hmm that's not "wow". I'd prefer quality over quantity.

Caufield show already that's he is going to be a star... 16 goals in 27 games, nothing more to say about that.

hey atleast we agree on something. right now I just view 2-3 times as much value in that package over Caufield. does that mean I'm 100% correct? no but I like the odds more of that package becoming better.
You know the old saying about 1 bird in hand.
I see hardly any value in that package. 2 late 1st rd picks. Late 1st rarely become near as good as Caufield.
Every team has a Holtz and i think Caufield today >> than Nemec and will only grow.

Nick Villano has built a reputation for making the dumbest trade proposals imaginable. I only know about him because his posts appear heavily on google search when you look up Devils news.
I wouldn't trade Nemec for Caufield or Slafkovsky straight up if given the chance.
Now I would entertain the idea of Holtz and a 2nd for Caufield. That's where it ends.

You see “barely any value” in what would be the most ridiculous trade package moved in I don’t know how many years? Name a player that got moved for more?

99.9% Habs fans wouldn't do the trade. Devil's picks be last firsts. Holtz is struggling. Nemec is big piece. But he is few years away. Just bringing his offer to light.
Umm what! Habs would be insane to turn that down. I’m nkt sure if the NHL would even let the trade go through as it’s borderline insane .

Ya I’d way way rather have a player like Meier for way less assets. The difference between the two in pure production would be minimal (if any) plis Meier plays a harder game. Easy choice for me

The idea of trading a young defenseman like Nemec with elite traits who easily projects as a Top 4 pairing defenseman in this league for a tiny one dimensional winger, is bizarre to put it mildly.
A Caufield you can find a dime a dozen in the draft. Nemec is once every 5 years.
Ya can you imagine . 40 goals scorers you can find a dime a dozen in the draft.

But you are right Top 4 pairing are much easier to find compared to 1st line wingers.

Funny how much Holtz is already getting written off. He's still just 20 years old, was a PPG player in the AHL last season and is just two years removed from being a #7 pick overall.

I like Caufield a lot, but not sure a small winger is really what NJ should be trading 4 1st rounders for.

We won't
I dont think non-devs fans have followed what Fitz has done to date. He is not going to handcuff the team like that
