Feed me a stray cat v peter sidorkiewicz for championship and NJ board bragging rights.

Status quo v wingman for next years no.1 draft pick.

May the best team win.

Thanks to everyone for playing this year. Draft order for next season is as follows:

1. Status Quo
2. Wingman77
3. Tmg
4. Luka's Team
5. Hyphenator
6. Henrique! It's Over!
7. Number 1 Team
8. Just Win
9. Concussion Junction
10. Billington's Ghost
11. Feed Me A Stray Cat
12. Peter Sidorkiewicz

A reminder that it is 5 players to keep. And out of those 5 players, only 1 goalie can be kept, if you choose to keep a goalie. When the league opens next year, I'll post more information on when the keeper deadline is.

Hopefully we will get all 12 teams continuing again but if there is someone that doesn't want to play again next season, please let me know and I will find a replacement.

League has been renewed.

Keeper deadline end of September.

Draft on saturday night october 8.

Anyone who wants to drop out, wishes for a draft date or time change, please let me know and I will try and accommodate.

As a matter of HFBoards policy, any league with prizing can't be organized on their forums. The only sorts of money leagues they tolerate are leagues where the members contribute to a premium-fee service, not to a prize pool.

Also, I don't believe this league supports the concept of trading players for picks. If so, I haven't seen the commish lay out any guidelines for that.

Gotcha.

Also, how do people feel about SHP as a category? In a roto league, where that accumulates over a full season, I get it. But in a weekly matchup league, where the category typically ends at 0-0, 1-0 or 1-1, it seems a bit pointless.

I like the concept of strategizing for the the Toews-type forward who plays a lot of PK minutes, but I wonder if there's a better stat that encapsulates that.

Tinkering with categories in a keeper league is a touchy subject. People drafted who they drafted and held who they've held based on the rules available at the time. The people who own Toews-like players aren't going to happily have their players lose something that's providing them an edge they planned to have in perpetuity.

If anyone is deciding their keepers based on SHP, then they're probably not managing their team correctly.

SHP Leaders from 2015-16:
1. Jean Gabriel Pageau - 9
2. Jonathan Toews - 7
3. Zack Smith - 6
4. Brad Marchand - 6
5. Matt Cullen - 6
6. Paul Byron - 5
7. Jamie Benn - 5
8. Vernon Fiddler - 4
9. Mikael Backlund - 4
10. Blake Wheeler - 4

SHP Leaders from 2014-15:
1. Tyler Toffoli - 6
2. Blake Wheeler - 5
3. Jamie Benn - 5
4. Derek Stepan - 5
5. Max Pacioretty - 5
6. Rick Nash - 5
7. Nikolay Kulemin - 4
8. Tomas Plekanec - 4
9. Brandon Sutter - 4
10. Tobias Rieder - 4

Only two repeats in the top 10. SHP is a pretty random stat. It's also a crappy stat to have for H2H matchups in the fantasy playoffs since it's so random. Take Adam Henrique, who is 2nd in the NHL since 2011 in short handed scoring. His SHP totals since then are 7, 5 (adjusted for lockout), 5, 1, 3. Even the second best short handed scorer in the NHL has fluky year to year stats.

I'm not advocating getting rid of the element this tries to capture completely. Is there a better stat for this?

Is there a way to be added to this league?

Only if a existing manager wants to drop out.

I initially tried a 16 team keeper league on this board but after the first season their was 4 GMs that basically gave up midway through the season and another 2 that quit after the season ended.

I rather have 12 committed managers for a keeper league so that there is some consistency in GMs.

I am also not really a fan of SHP since it is such a random stat. I would rather see something like hits or blocked shots, but once again we are too close to the draft for any rule changes now imo.

Also with so many people being interested in a keeper league, maybe one of those should start a second one.:dunno:

We can't do any trades until the draft is over anyway atm. Maybe a rule change for next year if possible to allow trading again after the playoffs end.

I don't mind SHP because it provides for a different strategy (drafting PKs). I actually think +/- is probably the worst category for Fantasy. Players get a point for just simply being on the ice when their team scores a goal, even though they might do nothing.

Regardless I am happy to change the stat categories prior to the draft if their is a consensus view of multiple people. If we are replacing SHP and or +/-, I would go with block shots first (as it would force more defenseman to be drafted, bringing a different challenge to this league) and then hits. Those would be my two to replaced including suggested alternatives.

With regards to after playoffs trading, Yahoo doesn't allow off-season trading because they shut down their systems but there is no reason we can't do it ourselves on this forum.

Basically how it would work is the GM negotiate a trade via PM with another GM on this forum. When it is agreed, one GM posts the trade in this thread, the other GM replies to the post to confirm the trade. And then I can keep a log of the off-season trades in a opening post. We would also need to post our keeper list public as well. So when it is time to finalise keepers, there is no confusion on which players belong to which team.

For example, even though according to Yahoo that Taylor Hall is on my roster, if I have privately finalised a trade with tmg for his first (live) round pick in exchange for Hall. I know that as commish I can move Hall from my team to tmg when setting the draft picks for the first 5 (keeper) rounds.

P.S. Taylor Hall is not really getting traded from my team.;)

My 5 keepers will be as follows:
1. Kopitar
2. Panarin
3. Eichel
4. Hall
5. Schneider

Which means I'm throwing back to the draft Byfuglien, Simmonds, Matt Murray, MA Fleury, Toews, Weber.

While i also like the idea of drafting PK's or generally players that are good at other things than just scoring, SHP's is imo just a luck factor in a weekly h2h format. Even if you have the top five SHP guys, you will lose/draw that stat a lot of weeks since it's such a low occurrence/pure luck stat.

While i consider +/- a pretty meaningless stat in real life, i don't mind it for fantasy reasons. It at least adds a certain strategic element (do i want that top scorer from a team that will do bad this season or a top six guy from that team that should do really good). Getting rid of +/- would also impact one of my keeper choices and i doubt i would be the only one.

Neutral between blocked shots and hits. I like either of them as stat that adds another element to the league.
