Clever role reversal here. Link is a swordsman by trade and can learn a bit of magic, but has to rely on a meter to use it.

Zelda, being more of a mage/sorceress relies on magic as her weapon, but can use a sword on a meter.

If this is a 2D take on the TOTK/BOTW formula with actual, traditional dungeons we might have a winner here. The only thing keeping the last two games from being truly perfect is the devs sacrificing dungeon complexity in favor of smaller, more bite sized puzzles in the form of shrines. Tears of the Kingdom was a step in the right direction but still not where i want them to be. Especially since you can completely break 2 of the big 4 dungeons as it's one of the select few time the game's openness works against itself

There appears to be some leaked information about the successor to the Switch. It looks exactly like what you would expect given the success of the Switch and the rumours that have existed for a while now that Nintendo was going to release another similar system.

The system appears to be more powerful than I would have expected from Nintendo. I'm curious if this will be significantly more expensive than the last few consoles they've released or if they've gotten away from their policy of not selling consoles at a loss (as Sony and MS often do).

I can see them offering a handheld only Lite at 350 and the normal that also works on a TV at 400 right from the start.

Where did you see something about how powerful it is? I only saw that the joycons will be magnetic now and the screen will be better but nothing on power. I'm hoping it's near PS4 Pro or One X level.

I have no idea, but I'm wondering if now that they've basically settled on a successful formula they're willing to take a bit more of a 'loss leader' approach on the console. Not to the degree that Sony and Microsoft were doing in their heyday, but could be smart to do it to some degree now.

I could see some sort of slight form factor change so that Switch 2 cards can't fit in the original Switch, but I think software can handle all that honestly.

(Unless there is some major need to make the Switch 2 format physically larger of course)

Played up to finishing the first dungeon in Echoes of Wisdom. Pretty good so far.

The mix of the more open ended gameplay loop from the new games and traditional stuff is actually a pretty sick combination. The sword meter or whatever you wanna call it seems to be usable fairly often and I think that was an awesome call by Nintendo to essentially let people have their cake and eat it too. They get their preferred style with the open world and Zelda traditionalists get a bone thrown to them with the dungeons, combat and other stuff.

First dungeon was predictably nothing spectacular as is the case with most of these games. More of a tutorial than anything. The use of puzzles to teach the player though is such a nice change from the shitty dungeons in TOTK/BOTW.

Really curious to see what they do with boss fights too. First one was simple but pretty clever in how it utilizes mechanics.

This is probably a very obvious question to ask, but I'm planning on treating myself to a switch soon (I'll see if there are price cuts for the Prime Day in October, if not then Black Friday). In addition to the switch online subscription for SNES and NES games, what else do people recommend as a game to start with? I have a feeling BotW is going to be the answer because on the surface it has universally great reviews, but just seeing if anything else like the newer Zeldas or another first party have would be better to start out?

Both the 3D (Odyssey) and 2D (Wonder) Mario games are very good

Ohhh man, always a fun question.

Depends on what you like:

• The Mario games of this generation have been good.
• Tears of the Kingdom
• Metroid Dread + Prime remastered
• Fire Emblem Three Houses.

Those are all great options, and as you said it depends what you are looking for

If you are in to JRPG's or want to give them a shot. The Xeno blade games are worth a look as well. I started with number 3 and ended up loving it.

Basically, unless you're super into needing graphic fidelity overload, the Switch is the best console going, the selection in pretty much any genre is enormous with new games and the plethora of remakes/rereleases/whathaveyou

I have to admit that I do wish nintendo consoles would be a bit more powerful so they wouldn't be getting ports of old games when two sequels have already came. They don't have to be gorgeous, but I'd loved the next borderlands, for example, to be available on switch sane day as ps5.
