As someone who enjoyed Pokémon red/blue/yellow, what is the best game released after them but before Sword/Shield? I also haven’t tried Arceus but I’ve gotten my open world fix with Elden Ring lately.

I haven’t played black/white, X/Y or sun/Moon but I still love playing Gold/Silver. You should give that a try. I’ll leave the rest to the better Pokemon experts.

Kind of depends what access you have to gaming systems or emulation. Emerald (GBA) and Platinum (DS) were both pretty good ones I’ve played. Other than that I’ve heard Heart Gold and Soul Silver were really good but never played as I don’t have a 3DS and just never really tried emulation. If you are purely looking for a switch game then your only options right now are Sword and Shield, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, or Arceus. BDSP gives a more traditional experience and is only 3 generations past the first so might be good to start there. Sw/Sh have a lot of aspects of a traditional game but added in the Wild area which I liked but the giant leap in generations might be a bit much and Sw/Sh is pretty gimmicky with their story. Arceus is nothing like any of the games. Like could easily not be a Pokémon game but definitely the one I sunk the most time in not including post game stuff.

So I mean it all kind of depends what you’re looking for and what access you have.

Id say Heart Gold/Soul Silver. There is an insane amount of content in that game compared to pretty much every other pokemon game and the Kanto region is fully fleshed out unlike the original. My next two picks would be Platinum and Emerald. Anything after gen 5 I haven't enjoyed enough to complete aside from the remakes.

Heart Gold/ Soul Silver. X & Y was the best for QOL stuff but I assume the online is dead now

Anyone play Shin Megami Tensei V yet?

I kind of lost my Pokemon phase, but I've played every single version except the ones on Switch. Personally my favourite is AlphaSapphire/OmegaRuby. It has everything you want in a Pokemon game including a brilliant bonus story and I would give SoulSilver/HeartGold second place, but I understand if people have this one first overall. SoulSilver/HeartGold are really hard to find, especially brand new if you have the desire to go that route. I would stay away from Moon/Sun and Black/White. Not that they're bad games per se, but don't really do anything new except actually take features out (they also recycle a ton of Pokemon in a very boring way). X & Y is kind of bland as well, but more playable than the other two.

KOTOR2 re-release day. I do believe I'll be playing for a bit after work & exercise today.

Had it on PC but back then my PC could barely play it. Loved the first one on my Xbox.

Gameplay is great. High paced arcade clusterf*** and it's the most fun I've had with a multiplayer game in a long time. They made a couple of major screwups though.

- advertising a 4v4 club mode similar to EASHL where you and three buddies form a team and play against others. The problem? They misled people by advertising it, and then letting everyone figure out to get 4 on a team you need to put two people to a switch. They also didnt bother to clarify on it either before launch. Multiple people I know either cancelled their preorders or returned the game upon finding out. Can't say I blame them

- online play has nothing outside of clubs. Quick play doesn't track anything like wins, record, etc.

- clubs apparently not having a true ranking system and being based on how much you play (again, you marketed this as a mostly online title. This is on you)

- Not a lot to do offline. Not the biggest issue to me since the original and charged weren't exactly exploding with conflict either but a lot of other people have complained about this.

The choices don't affect me too much since me and the one friend only usually play together but I'm not sure if I can recommend it given I dont think this is going to have a long shelf life. Tennis was barebones but it at least had pretty deep gameplay mechanics that kept people coming back. Here? Not so much.

This game is also the perfect example of how Nintnedo can screw up even the most basic of ideas.

I really shouldn't be surprised by Nintendo. Maybe two Mario Strikers games from now we'll have a basic ELO-rank system for online play(like where's the basic Bronze, Silver, Gold ranks for 1v1 online???).
I mean there is nothing, absloutely nothing for a solo player like me, I thought there was going to be an EASHL-like thing as well.

Edit: Also replaying someone is very annoying because you have to re-select everything again. Nintendo, when I want a rematch with a random person, I just want to start a new game immediately...

Clubs is even dumber than i thought.

- You can play 1v1, 2v2 or 4v4 (with 2 switches) but the way it works is each club member brings their own striker (aka; character with their gear loadout)

- If you have only one or two players on your clubs (which i imagine most will because of the dumbass restrictions), you only get the two characters you brought. To fill out your squad you will be given random, default characters. You can't equip gear to them nor do you get a choice in what characters you get.

The result? Me, playing alone as my buddy's club ran into a guy with like 10 players on his roster. It was 1v1, but all four of his players were geared out, two of which were heavies. I lost 10-0 because my team straight up couldn't compete because of straight up RNG giving me no heavies and half my team having no gear.

Clubs is also the only way to play competitively for a solo player btw.

What an absolute joke this game is. Nintendo should cease from making online games sans Splatoon and Mario Kart.

Once again, if you're going to market multiplayer is the big draw, you need to make sure it actually makes sense.

So basically the only hope as a solo player is that you find a random club with characters geared out the way you want...

But I would be self-conscious playing solo though, because every win/loss would reflect on the club.... but it isn't my club. I would just be so random guy who "hijacked" it.

Lame, have to say after releasing great games early on like Odyssey, BOTW, and Ultimate I've been very disappointed by what's been releasing for the Switch lately. Only game I can think of immediately that came out for it after 2018 was Metroid Dread. Was very excited for both New Horizons and Sword/Shield but thought both were absolute crap.

All the best stuff coming out I have already played! Nier is amazing and the Persona series finally coming to Switch is awesome! I will likely be getting P3P and P4G when they release.

Other than that, not much in this one for me. I think I may check out Portal and the Live A Live demo as well.

Just managed to buy the N64 Switch Controller on the Nintendo Canada site if anyone wanted one. They seem to never be in stock, and due to the weird ass layout of that thing, I found the N64 games didn't feel right using the pro-controller.

Congratulations to the Switch for getting some of the best games of the year... if that year is 2017.
