Well I suppose the question is how long will it take him to come over? If you were the GM and you knew he wouldn't come over for 4 years why would you draft him? You'll most likely no longer be the GM by the time he comes over. You need ownership to step in to make a pick like that. But do you want ownership meddling?

If your job is to make sure you pick the best player available, you take the best guy.

I get the argument, but I don't agree with it. Easy for me to say as its not my job but at a certain point it just becomes silly and is how massive mistakes are made.

Great trade
I like Nils and he will be a good player
But a first in the best draft in 2 decades is crazy.
Wish Nils all the best

I’m going to get out ahead of this now, NO ONE should be saying that this opens up the possibility of trading the Rangers 1st this year. This years draft is going to be VERY deep. Keep both picks. If Drury wants to extend this window, this is a good opportunity to do so. Make a couple of good picks in next years draft and get a couple of nice ELC skilled players entering the NHL at a good time when they will be sorely needed.

Also makes up for not having a 1st this year as next years draft is significantly better.
Can't like this post enough.

We traded a cond 1st already and yeah, fine worth it, but in this draft just make the picks or package them to move up.

That's my take anyway.

Here's to Dallas finishing w pick #11

It's amazing to me to see people wanting a first-round pick for Krav.

How many pics do you want? We need him to be a stud. It's time to win
I’m a big Kravtsov fan, and I hope he sticks here, but I have a feeling he’s going to get the Amonte treatment. They’re going to let him play with Panarin, rebuild his value, and trade him for veteran depth and grit for the playoff run.

Really happy with this return for Nils, even if he goes on to pull a Zubov in Dallas.

The funny/sad/maddening part of this is that of all the people praising this deal all over social media, at least half of them will bring out the pitchforks if Nils becomes a player.

I have significant confidence he will. But if we're not getting rid of Trouba to clear a spot for him there's just no room at RD rn. And a 1st+ is a great return for a guy who wanted out

I like that 4th to 3rd round stipulation he got there.

Basically if Nils does well it will sting a little less with a 3rd rounder coming our way after the fact

The first? It’s more than I expected. Even if its in the lower half of the round. The fact it can slide to 24 and be unprotected is wonderful.

Would’ve loved to get a young center but very good deal considering what was said to be on the table not to mention Nils and Claude screwed his value by threatening to sit out.

Good luck to Nils, now lets get camp rolling

In deep drafts there are some sweet spots in the 12-18 range where you can get a damn fine player - a real difference maker if you hit it right.

There's no room here for him, so they all can get mad but it's moot to me.

Nils will learn quickly the old saying in Texas--we say it in New York, I think it's in Texas--that says, fool me once, shame on--shame on you. Fool me--you can't get fooled again.

God I hope they don't deal the pick (which is human nature as it is seen as house money).

Bigger question for Dallas, will Nils Lundkvist be Tim Erixon or Adam Fox?

Now go sign Julius Honka to a PTO ;)

They need to keep their own pick and try to trade up if need be to get a player they love, center preferably.
Ideally sure, I’d prefer that too. I’m just saying it opens up more possibilities. The team is contending now so if they’re having another strong season and a good piece is there at the deadline you can feel more comfortable parting with a high pick knowing you have another one. Not saying that’s what I want them to do but obviously it depends on the scenario.

Some fans always want picks to pick new players but 2-3 years later the newness wears off so they want more picks. They view picks like unscratched lottery tickets. Always hoping the next one will be a jackpot.
