Honestly if Michkov falls beyond 5 NHL GMs are stupid.

I get teams want an immediate ROI when picking that high but who gives a f***? When he comes over and steps into the league (when ever that is) hes probably going to be better than who ever you picked.

Maybe other guys really take a leap forward and jump him but I'm not seeing it. He's f***ing electric.

A RD would be the epitome of #epicfail

We do kinda need a RD prospect now. But yeah would rather a lower end one that falls, more like Matthew Robertson, rather than a guy who has top 4 PP aspirations. Your future RD is Fox and Schneider, so you just need a plus third pairing guy.

know the big need is a c, but with 2 1st rounders 1 name id love to see us come away with is andrew cristall. saw a couple u18 games with canada, didnt seem to get much hype from the guys calling the game or a ton of ice time, but for my money was the most talented player i saw on the ice from a size/skill/iq perspective. believe hes a wing, but a name i wanna throw out as one id be very happy using 1 of the 1sts on if hes available.

This is definitely a win for Drury given the circumstances.

Maybe that doofus Claude Lemieux did us a favor? Forced our hand to trade this player right now while the league still saw value. Given what we saw last season of Nils, we may have pulled off a David Rundblad/Griffin Reinhart type of steal before the rest of the league found out. Another so-so season in the AHL for Lundkvist with a cup of coffee with the Rangers probably would have tanked his value.

Now let's hope that first turns into Tarasenko or Barzal :)

But I was told Drury sucks and he completely mishandled the Lundkvist situation. Even though the trade request was made just last January and the reporting has said he was offered a high 2nd at the trade deadline.

He now walks away with a 1st round pick in a deep 2023 draft that could be between 11-32. So he at least moved up a few spots from the 2nd round offering in the 2022 draft, again in what is believed to be a deeper draft class. He probably moves up at least 10 spots. I don’t see Dallas being a deep playoff threat. Older team with aging stars. He also came away with at least a 4th round pick in 2025, that could become a 3rd round pick. Those extra picks are extremely valuable to help get depth pieces at the deadline as we saw with Tyler Motte.

I am sure some miserable person will say Drury still sucks and should have traded Lundkvist even before last season started, ya know before he played those 25 games and requested a trade, before Schneider emerged, and he should have gotten back a top prospect center too.

This is a really solid return for a guy that frankly look over matched in his first year. Obviously, Drury waiting it out made a good call if the 2nd round offers are to be believed.

pretty happy about this trade, we still need to trade Zach Jones. Or we are keeping him? Doesn't seem to make sense to keep him with all the Dmen we have.

I’m going to get out ahead of this now, NO ONE should be saying that this opens up the possibility of trading the Rangers 1st this year. This years draft is going to be VERY deep. Keep both picks. If Drury wants to extend this window, this is a good opportunity to do so. Make a couple of good picks in next years draft and get a couple of nice ELC skilled players entering the NHL at a good time when they will be sorely needed.

Also makes up for not having a 1st this year as next years draft is significantly better.

The Rangers first was likely getting traded this year regardless. Just look at the history.

7/8 picks 25+ were dealt this year
4/7 the year before
3/7 the year before
2/7 the year before
6/7 the year before
4/6 the year before
4/6 the year before
4/6 the year before
2/5 the year before
3/6 the year before

That's 39/65 picks 25+ not taken frmo the team that got them. Don't get your hopes up thinking the're keeping it. It's unlikely.

Keeping both Jones and Robertson is now critical. You don’t trade either of those guys.

The future D is probably

Fox
Miller
Schneider
Jones
Robertson
And either Trouba or Lindgren or another to be drafted defender

It would be foolish for them to trade it.

Well I suppose the question is how long will it take him to come over? If you were the GM and you knew he wouldn't come over for 4 years why would you draft him? You'll most likely no longer be the GM by the time he comes over. You need ownership to step in to make a pick like that. But do you want ownership meddling?

We don't know if Emberson or Skinner will ever be NHL level players, so we would probably want a 21ish year old RD to backfill after we let Trouba walk even if he plays out his entire contract. I'd still prefer a C, but a D wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. We'd be effectively kicking the "mid 1st round D" can down the road by 5 or 6 years.

As the owner you should empower your GM to make the best moves for the franchise and reward him for forward thinking instead of win now value losses.

And you probably can’t make a better move than drafting Mitchkov after like, 3rd overall. Even if you have to wait 4 years it’s a home run.
